Description

J 1 22016314 GREETINGS AND THE LIKE CARDS This invention relates to
re-usable greetings and the like cards.
Greetings and the like cards,, for example Christmas,, birthday,, and special occasion cards are ordinarily sent to people to convey a particular message. Some cards are left blank for the sender to write upon and others contain a printed message or verser but even with cards of the latter typer it is usually the case that the sender writes an additional message.
Once written on the card can serve no other purpose, and is normally discarded by the recipient shortly after its receipt. Equally,, cards are known to be pre-printed with particular messages, making them suitable for one use only, and here again they are normally discarded by the recipient.
The object of the invention is to provide an improvement on greetings and the like cards.
According to the present invention, a greetings and the like card comprises a removably, secured and replaceable section strategically located on the card to receive a personal message written by the sender or to bear a preprinted message to suit a particular purpose.
Thus, a number of said sections can be packaged and sold together,, each bearing a different picture and/or a message, with, preferably, a blank area for a personal message to be applied by the sender. On the sending of a card,, an :f 1 1 appropriate said section can be selected by the sender, best suited either to the occasion or the recipient, and applied to the card.
After the receipt of a card in accordance with the inventions, the recipient after the card ha.s served its intended purpose, instead of discarding it as has hitherto been the cases, can simply detach the removable section, and replace it with a new section of his or her own choosing, mak'.i-g the card re-usable by the recipient.
Preferably, the removable section is secured to the card by an appropriate adhesive, able to hold that section to the cards, but permitting the relatively easy removal of that section, the replacement sections being similarly coated with the same or comparable adhesive.
of particular applicability to a larger two page card or to a multiple page card, a second removable and replaceable section can be provided,, to carry a fuller message preprinted or handwritten,, or a photographs, or perhaps a picture to convert the card into one more suited to the purpose for which the card is being sent.
Enabling the sender of a card to tailor it to suit the occasion or to suit the recipients, constitutes a notable advantage and improvement over conventional greetings cards, where the cards to suit a particular purpose and the preprinted messages within them tend to be stereotype and are to a degree impersonal. In addition to thist the ability of the card to be re-used by the recipient could be of 0 1 -considerable financial value to persons in the low income groups, e.g. pensioners, particularly at a time of year such as at Christmasr and when the purchase of cards in the considerable numbers that are frequently required constitutes a considerable financial burden. By only having to purchase a quantity of replacement sections at a much lower cost than the cards per sej, this would constitute a valuable saving to such groups of persons.
Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows schematically a two page card bearing a removable and replaceable section on one of its pages; and Figure 2 shows schematically a multiple page card bearing two removable and replaceable sections on separate page.
In Figure I a two page card 1 is shown, of itself manufactured in conventional manner, and with the outer face of the front sheet suitably printed in accordance with the intended purpose of the card. It could be a Christmas card as is schematically indicatedi, but could be of course a card intended for any other purpose.
To enable the card to be tailored by the sender to suit the occasion or the recipient and to prevent the card from being permanently defaced and hence not reusablej, a replaceable section 2 is applied to one of the inside faces of f the card and there located by any suitable means that allows its ready removal and replacement. Thus, for example, one face of the removable section can be coated with an appropriate adhesive of the type that would permit the replaceable section to be secured in place but at the same time allows the r eplaceable section to be readily removed. The removable section may be preprinted with an appropriate message leaving a blank area to be signed by the sender or may simply be blank to be provided with a message and be signed by the sender.
Illustrated in Figure 2 is a larger multiple page card 3, again of itself produced in conventional mannerp and again with the outer f ace of the f ront sheet suitably preprinted in accordance with the intended purpose of the car d. With this form of construction, a f irst removable section 4 is provided attached such as by an appropriate adhesive and which can bear a preprinted message or picture to suit the purpose of the card and a second removable section 5 attached to another.of the inside faces,- and blank to receive a fuller message or greeting written from the sender to the recipient.
With both forms of construction it will be readily understood that the effectiveness of the card is considerably enhanced by enabling it to be personalised to suit the occasion and/or the recipient, with the added advantage that a recipient of a card in accordance with the invention who has a supply of replacement sections 2, 4#, or 5#, can re-use the a A r card received simply by taking out those replaceable sections 2, 4, or 5 on the card received, and replacing them with replacement sections of his or her own choosing to suit his or her intended. purpose for sending such card.
