Valve gear; valves.-- Gear for actuating an overhead valve comprises an eccentric c carried by the half-time wheel b and connected by a rod d to a slotted member e, which is held by links o, r attached to fixed pivots n, q, the valve k being opened and closed by a bell crank h pivoted at j and engaging in the slot f of the member e. As the eccentric rod d is reciprocated, the member e is canted over at an angle so as to move the bell crank h laterally. The arm 2 of the bell crank may have a forked end engaging between collars 9, 10 on the valve stem, the collar 9 being formed on a sleeve 8 screwed to the stem, and the collar 10 being mounted loosely on the sleeve so as to bear against a spring 11. The other end of the spring abuts against a collar 12 held in position by a cotter 13.
