Abstract

219,851. Delaney, M. G. Nov. 5, 1923. Vaporizing-apparatus; perforated-tube burners; liquid-fuel supply.-A liquid-fuel burning apraratus comprises a perforated-tube burner 12 supplied with a mixture of superheated steam and oil vapour by a coiled tube 11 which is connected to a superheating chamber 9 on a water boiler 6 and to which oil is admitted through a pipe 13, all these parts being arranged in a " supermixing " casing 1. The boiler 6 is supported centrally in the casing by a cradle 7 and is initially heated by liquid fuel burnt in a pan 15. The gases discharged from the burner 12 are mixed and partially burnt with air issuing from nozzles 5 on pipes 4 in the casing, complete combustion taking place on the gases issuing from slits or other orifices 2 at the top and sides of the casing. The oil and water are supplied to the burner through cisterns 19, 21 the levels in which are regulated by float valves so as to maintain the desired levels in the apparatus without head pressure. Overflow in the event of flame extinction is thereby prevented. The oil-supply pipe 13 is fitted with a, regulating valve 23 and a check valve 26 and the water-supply pipe 8 with a check valve 27. The admission of gas to the burner is regulated by a valve 24 operated by a lever 25. The gas supply to part of the burner may be shut off when a small flame is desired by means of a valve operated by a lever 29.
