Abstract

A display apparatus which can show more than one display on a front surface comprises a stationary display sheet 2 having one display on the front surface and parallel slits 3. One edge of each slit is extended rearwards to form a guide leaf (2'' Fig. 3). At least one insert sheet 4 is inserted between each guide leaf and the rear surface of the stationary sheet. The insert sheets, one for each slit, are connected by upper and lower guide members 7 and 8 through narrow portions 10 to form a movable second display sheet (Fig. 5) which moves reciprocally normal to the slits to change the display when the insert sheets project through the slits. A plurality of insert sheets (eg six) may be provided for each slit, the insert sheets being arranged in generally stacked relation (Fig. 3) but being independently movable with respect to each other and each forming part of one of a plurality of display sheets. The plurality of display sheets may be selectively reciprocated on the basis of a programme stored in a microcomputer device (Figs. 7-9). The display sheets may be moved by string and roller arrangement (Fig. 5) or by rack and pinion means, the pinion being motor driven. Voice and/or musical display means may be combined with the insert sheets which may be of fabric. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Display apparatus The present invention relates to a display apparatus having variable display surfaces.
Conventional display sheet apparatus having variable display sheets includes a stationary display sheet having parallel slits through which an insert sheet having another display projects from each slit to change the display.
Such a display sheet is described in Japanese Patent Publication 500020/1984, and International Patent Publication WO8/302517. Such insert sheet is made of paper or fabric so that it can easily sag or be arrested by the edge of the slit thus disturbing smooth operation.
Also, the known display sheet cannot change display for more than three sorts regularly.
The present invention seeks to provide an improved display apparatus which can smoothly display change or preferably more than three kinds of displays.
According to the invention there is provided a display apparatus having a display surface which can be altered between a plurality of different displays, said apparatus comprising: a) a stationary display sheet having a plurality of slits which are parallel and equally spaced from each other; b) a guide leaf extending from one side edge of each slit along the rear surface of the sheet; c) at least one insert sheet between the rear surface of the display sheet and each guide leaf; d) means connecting with the upper and lower ends of said insert sheets in half duplicated relation to each other to form a movable display sheet; e) means slidably supporting said movable display sheet on the rear side of the stationary display sheet; and f) means for projecting and retracting a portion of the insert sheet through each slit to change the surface display.
As described, a number of insert sheets e.g. six, can be inserted between the rear surface of the stationary display sheet and the guide leaf which is practically an extension of the slit edge. Thus, smooth projection and retraction of a selected insert sheet can be easily performed. When the insert sheet is projected through the slit, the original display on the stationary sheet is covered by a new display on the insert sheet. When the insert sheet is retracted through the slit, the original display reappears.
The insert sheets may be connected through a narrow portion by upper and lower support members. The guide rod of the upper support member may be secured with a stationary frame and the lower guide rod may be urged downwards by spring means. Thus, any sag is absorbed and the movement of the movable display sheet is very smooth.
The movement of the movable display sheet can be performed in any desired manner, e.g.
by string and roller connected with each movable sheet. Preferably, rack and pinion means are connected, and the pinion drive motor is controlled by a program stored in a microcomputer. Such control is very desirable to control movable sheets e.g. five or six sheets. The automatic control of various displays cannot be realised in known apparatus.
In order that the invention may be better understood, several embodiments thereof will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment of a display apparatus according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a front elevation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 showing display changed views; Figure 3 is an enlarged partial sectional view along line A-A of Fig. 1; Figure 4 is an enlarged partial sectional view along line B-B of Fig. 2; Figure 5 is a front elevation of a drive means of a movable display sheet; Figure 6 is a perspective view of the display apparatus; Figure 7 is a rear side view of a display apparatus according to a second embodiment of the invention; Figure 8 is a perspective view of a movable display sheet;; Figure 9 is a sectional view along line A-A of Fig. 7; Figure 10 is a developed view of the display apparatus; and Figure ii is a flow chart of the control program.
Figs. 1 to 5 show a display sheet according to a first embodiment of the present invention. Onto the rear side of a display frame 1, a display sheet 2 having display e.g. picture or words for advertisement is supported. The display sheet 2 forms a plurality of vertical slits 3 which are parallel with the same distance from each other. One side of each sheet portion 2' between the slits 3 is extended rearward of the adjacent sheet portion 2' to form a guide leaf 2" for one or more insert sheets 4.
A plurality of the insert sheets 4 are arranged as shown in Fig. 5, to be half duplicated each other and are connected by upper and lower narrow connecting pieces 10 with -upper and lower slide members 7 and 8 to form an insert sheet assembly 12. The left edge of each insert sheet 4 is placed between the guide leaf 2" and overlayed sheet portion 2' of the display sheet 2. Thus, when the insert sheet assembly 4' is pulled leftwards in Fig. 1, the left portion of the insert sheet 4 appears through each slit 3 of the display sheet 2 until the whole front surface of the display sheet 2 is covered by the insert sheet 4. At this time the display is changed to new display.A plurality of insert sheet assemblies 12 may be inserted between the guide leaf 2" and the sheet portion 2' as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, so that a desired insert sheet assembly 12 can be pulled through the slits 3 to change display on the surface as shown in Fig. 4.
Consequently, display on the surface shown in Fig. 1 can be changed more than two kinds.
The upper and lower slide members 7 and 8 are suitably guided to slide along the frame 1. The insert sheet assembly 4' is moved by suitable means. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, strings 30 are connected with the slide members 7 and 8 at one end and are wound on a roll 32. The roll 32 can be selectably driven by suitable drive means 33.
Figs. 6-11 show a second embodiment of the present invention in which the same reference numerals are used to show similar parts with the first embodiment for the sake of clarity.
On the inner periphery of a frame 1, the outer edge of a display sheet is secured to form a stationary display sheet 2 as shown in Fig. 6. The display sheet 2 forms a plurality of vertical and parallel slits 3 in the same interval. Each sheet portion 2' between slits has guide leaf 2" described in the first embodiment. A plurality of insert sheets 4 are placed behind the slits 3. The insert sheets 4 are connected with upper and lower support plates 7' and 8' through narrow neck portions 10 so as to duplicate about half the width thereof. The common support plates 7' and 8' are connected with horizontal pipes 7" and 8" to form upper and lower common slide members 7 and 8. The horizontal pipes 7" and 8" are slidably inserted by horizontal guide rods 5 and 6.The upper guide rod 5 is secured with the frame 1 at both ends, and the lower guide rod 6 is vertically movably supported at the lower portion of the frame 1 along vertical guide rods 11 as shown in Fig. 7. The upper and lower horizontal pipes are connected to each other by a connecting bar 9. Thus, a movable display sheet 12 is formed.
The connecting bar 9 is formed by an upper bar 9" and a lower bar 9' which are slidable with respect to each other to extend or contract. As the insert sheets 4 are stacked as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, e.g. six sheets, the same number of guide rods 5 and 6, common slide members 7 and 8 and connecting bars 9 are arranged in the frame 1. On the rear side of the frame 1, support bars 13 and 13 connect the upper and lower ends of the frame 1. A reversible reduction brake motor 14 is mounted on the support bar 13 and has an output shaft with a drive pinion which meshes with a horizontal rack 1 5. One end of the rack 1 5 is connected with the connecting bar 9 to form reciprocating drive apparatus 16 of the movable display sheet 12. The other end of the rack 15 has a projection 17 which actuates a reciprocation switching limit switch 18.
The on off of the limit switch 1 8 acuates a relay 19 which operates the drive motor 14 in the desired direction. The reciprocation drive apparatus 16 is mounted for each movable display sheet 12 so that there are six in the illustrated embodiment as shown in Figs. 7 and 9. A microcomputer device 20 mounted on the frame 1 stores operation program 23 of the six apparatus 16 and operates the six apparatus 16 sequentially according to the stored program 23 so that display on the front surface of the six sheets 4 are sequentially projected from the slits 3. Consequently, a very remarkable display can be produced.
The projection and stop period of the insert sheet 4 can be set by timer means. Further, voice or musical display means may be combined with one or more insert sheets 4. Fig.
11 shows an example of a flow chart of the programmed movable display sheets 12, in which manually operable program select switches 40 increase the flexibility of the apparatus.
Downward urging springs 22 hold the lower horizontal guide rods 6. By supporting the lower guide rod 6 in a free hanging state without securing to the frame 1, tolerance of the length of the insert sheet 4 can be easily absorbed without causing sag or excessive tightness.
The upper and lower common support members 6 may be made of thin stainless steel plate to support insert sheets made of fabric. The both end portions of the sheet 4 may be formed by a portion of the steel plate having integral narrow portion.
