Abstract

218,923. Lefebure, V. Dec. 17, 1923. Porous or spongy india-rubber, resin, cement, plaster, and other plastic compositions are obtained by incorporating with the material an adsorbent substance charged with a gas or a gasgenerating substance, liberating the gas by raising the temperature or lowering the pressure or both, and causing, or permitting the mixture to harden. A suitable adsorbent is silica gel. The adsorbed substance may be a gas, a liquid, a volatile solid, or a substance which is decomposed by heat into gaseous products. Hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide, ammonia and ammonium carbonate are mentioned as examples. To prevent premature evolution of gas the particles of adsorbent after being charged may be coated with an impermeable substance such as wax which confines the adsorbed substance until the temperature is raised. Specifications 11624/11 and 185,477 are referred to.
