Abstract
A double glazed leaded light unit comprises first (4) and second (10) sheets, and a perimeter frame (9, 11), with the pieces of glass (1, 2) supported directly against the inside of the first of the sheets (4), a first framework of lead strips (7, 7a) secured over the edges of the pieces of glass (2, 1) and a second framework of lead strips (7) secured on the outside of the first facing sheet (4) to overlie the edges of the pieces of glass (2, 1). <IMAGE>
Description
GB 2 188 359 A SPECIFICATION According to a further aspect of the
invention, a method of incorporating the different glasses of a Improvements in double glazing leaded stained glass panel into a sealed double glazed unitcomprises adhering edge regions of This invention relatesto a sealed double glazed 70 adjacent glasses of the stained glass panel together leaded light unit which has particular reference to a and to a first transparent facing sheet, locating a first stained glass unit. frame of lead strips overthe adjacent edge regions It has not proved possibleto produce a sealed so that a respective strip of theframe overlies each double glazed stained glass unitwith a conventional edge region, combining the firstfacing sheetwith a leaded stained glass panel as one boundarywall of 75 second facing sheet into a hermetically sealed the sealed unit. It has been proposed (GB-A-1 426551, double glazed unit so thatthe stained glasses and the 1147030 and 2137680to locate a conventional leaded first lead frame fie within the gap between thefacing stained glass panel in the gap between the clear sheets, and adhering a second lead frame on the glass boundary sheets of a conventional sealed outerface of the firstfacing sheet to obscure the double glazed unit but this arrangement is optically 80 edge regions of the adjacent glasses viewable unsatifactory under certain lighting conditions. through the firstfacing sheet.
It has also been proposed (in GB-A-1 491696) to The area of the stained glass panel may represent make a double glazed leaded light by securing raised substantially the entire area of the sealed unit or may strip members to both sides of one of the clearglass be located in the sealed unitwith a perimeter of the boundary walls of a conventional double glazed unit. 85 facing sheets therearound.
EP-A-0085732 discloses a substitute sealed double Preferably both facing sheets aretransparent and glazed stained glass unit constructed by sticking lead preferably are of glass. The second facing sheetcan strips and coloured plastics sheets onto the inside of betransclucent orobscured glass in some one of the clear glass boundarysheets. It has also applications.
been proposed to paint areas of the inside surface of 90 The use of Tshaped lead enables an even more one of the clear glass boundary sheets before realistic double glazed stained glasswindowto be completing the sealed unit butto even a relatively produced since the framework of T-shaped lead can inexperienced eye plastics sheets and painted areas be built up by cutting and soldering as the pattern of are seen to be substitutes for real stained glass. included glasses is assembled on a support in a According to one aspect of the invention, a double 95 manner very similarto that used for a conventional glazed leaded light unit comprises first and second stained glass window. When the framework is facing sheets of clear transparent material, a complete, it and its included glasses can be inverted perimeterframe spacing thefacing sheets apart and and adhesive applied to regions of theframe and hermetically sealing the gap formed between the glass (e.g. to corner regions where ead strips meet) facing sheets, and located within the gap,the lead 100 so that onefacing sheet of the eventual double strips and glass pieces of a leaded light, wherein the glazed unit can be pressed down ontothe inverted pieces of glass are adhered directly, at edge regions stained glass unitto adhere ittothefacing sheet.
