This of card is stored to provide at leastfold lines 17,18 separation is thoughtto be due to the surface layer of and whilstthe blank is in a flat condition a first layer the card separating f rom the remainder of the card. of hot melt glue is extruded onto the blank so as to It is a general aim of the present invention to coverthe area between fold lines 17,18 and also provide a coverfor use with a thermal binding 90 extend acrossthefold lines 17,18. Whilstthefirst machine which overcomes or substantially reduces layer of hot melt glue is still hotthe layer of the above drawback. reinforcement material 32 is applied to its surface According to one aspect of the present invention and is centrally positioned relative to the fold lines there is provided a cover comprising a frontcover 17,18. Preferablythe width of the reinforcement leaf and a rear cover leaf interconnected by a spine 95 material is slightly less than the distance between portion, the spine portion having applied to its fold lines 17,18. Application of the reinforcement internal surface a layer of tear resistant flexible material to thefirst layers of glue results in melted reinforcement material encapsulated within a band glue penetrating the reinforcement material and this of hot melt adhesive. the reinforcement material is securely bonded in According to another aspect of the present 100 position relative to the spine portion.
invention there is provided a method of producing a A second layer of hot melt adhesive is then applied cover as defined above, the method including to the first layer of adhesive, the second layer being forming a spine portion in a blank of sheet material sufficiently hot and sized to completely coverthe and applying to the internal surface thereof a band of reinforcement layer and cause at least peripheral hot melt adhesive having a layer of tear resistant 105 melting of thefirst layer. Thus the first and second flexible reinforcement material encapsulated layers of hot melt glueform a unitary band of glue therein. withthe reinforcement material being encapsulated Various aspects of the present invention are therein.
hereinafter described with reference to the Whilstthefirst and second layers are in a melted accompanying drawings, in which:- 110 condition, the blank is folded aboutfold lines 17,18.
