Description

SPECIFICATION Document pouch This invention relates to a pouch for holding documents such as pads of forms and preferably also writing or other instruments.
According to the invention there is provided a document pouch comprising an open-topped container portion for receipt of documents with the rear wall extending as a flat which, in its closed condition extends over the top of the container portion, down the front and turns back under the base to be releasably secured there or onto said rear wall, and a detachable mounting member releasably interconnected by attachment to the sides or rear wall of the container portion.
It is preferred that the free end of the flap should be releasably secured to said rear wall by pressstuds.
Ideally the container portion will additionally incorporate a pocket with a clear window on the front wall, for receipt of a card of the like. The container portion may also incorporate a pocket for a writing or other instrument within, or on a side wall of, the container portion. Desirably the inner face of the flap is stiffened to act as a writing surface and the flap optionally incorporates means for retaining documents placed on the writing surface.
In the preferred embodiment said attachments comprise mutually acting press-studs on said rear wall and on the mounting member. Ideally the press-studs are releasable in response to a release movement in one general direction only to reduce the risk of accidental or intentionai removal from any but the desired direction.
The mounting member may incorporate a loop to be slid over a belt on a portion of a harness.
The invention may be performed in various ways and a preferred embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figures 1 to 3 illustrate a document pouch of the invention in front, side and rear views respectively, Figures 4 and 5 are front and side views of a mounting member for the document pouch, and Figures 6 and 7 illustrate accessories for the document pouch.
As shown in Figures 1 to 3 the document pouch defines a container portion 1 having a rear wall 2 and a front wall 3. The pocket defined by the container portion 1 can receive pads of forms. A clear fronted flat pocket 4, is defined within the front wall 3 to receive an identification card or similar document in such a way that the card is clearly visible without recourse to its removal. A separate pocket 5 within the front wall can hold a writing instrument or some other instrument. A similar pocket 6 is formed onto the side wall of the pouch.
The rear wall 2 extends upwardly to define a front flap 7 provided with a stiffened cover 8. This can act as a writing surface for forms removed from the document pouch. When the flap 7 is folded down to close off the container portion it will lie over the front wall 3 of the pouch and the free end 9 of the flap will then fold under the pouch and will be releasably held by press-studs 10 co-operating with complimentary studs 11 on the rear wall 2 of the pouch. The flap thus provides a substantial degree of weatherproofing for the contents and will not accidentally become opened.
The pouch is mounted onto a belt of the wearer by means of the mounting member 12, shown in Figures 4 and 5. This defines a loop 13to be slid onto the belt (or for example onto a portion of a harness). The mounting member 12 also incorporates a pair of press-studs 14, which locate onto complimentary press-studs on the rear wall 2 of the pouch. These press-studs can only be released in response to movement in one general direction. This reduces the risk that the pouch may become detached accidentally from the mounting member and will resist attempts for deliberate removal. Instead of the press-studs D rings or similar attachments could be provided on the side panels for connection to other mounting members on a belt or harness.
A slot 15 provided on the rear wall 2 of the pouch can receive a spring clip 16 or an elasticated strap 17, which can be used to hold documents in place whilst information is being written onto those documents.
The pouch will be formed primarily from leather or canvas, the portions being sewn together.
Flexible synthetic materials could also be used and would be sewn or welded together.
