Abstract

An adjustable gate hanging crook has a screw thread 1 which enables adjustment of the latching end of the gate simply by screwing the crook further into the post or out as the need may be. A hole slightly smaller in diameter than that of the crook is drilled into the wooden post and then the crook may be screwed into the hole. <IMAGE>

Gate hanging crooks are commonly used to hang an assortment of gates such as those used in far myardsfields and gardens.

The mostcommontype of gate crookconsists of a wedge shape hangerwhich is hammered into a woo den hanging post,althoughthistypeisfairlysuc- cessful itdoes not allow much room for adjustment asto much hammering has atendencyto splitthetop of the post.

According to the present invention there is a screw type thread incorporated as part of the crookwhich allows the crook to simply be screwed into the post.

This screwing action removes any chance of the post being split and simply by screwing the crook in more or less as needed, it is possible to raise or lower the latching end of the gate.

Aspecific embodiment ofthe invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the basic look of the crook Figure2 illustrates how the crooks would be used in relation to the post.

Figure3gives an example ofa shank end on the crook which may be needed in cases of extremely wide heavy gates.
