Abstract
A washing process. It is carried out between 40 and 60 DEG C in at least two stages at different temperatures, each having a certain holding time, using a detergent composition that contains enzymes and a low temperature bleaching system.
Description
SPECIFICATION
Washing process
The present invention relates to a washing process for washing fabrics and the like. More particularly, it relates to a washing process giving an improved overall detergency performance at lowertemperatures.
In recent years detergent products have been developed for use in washing processes which are carried out at lowertemperatures, e.g. 6000 and lower.
Equally, washing processes have been developed for laundering at such lowertemperatures. However, particularly where detergent ingredients are used togetherwich have different optimum performance temperatures, maximum effectiveness is not always achieved in such lowertemperaturewashing processes.
It has now been found that optimum detergency results are obtained with a detergent composition which contains an enzyme as well as a lowtemperature bleaching system if the washing process is carried out with such a detergent compositiion between 40 and 60 C,wherebythe main wash cycle is carried out in at least two sequential stages at 40 and 5000 respectively, these temperatures each being held for 50% of the time of total main wash cycle. Preferably, the main wash cycle is carried out in three sequential stages at 40, 50 and 60 C, respectively, these temperatures being held for 25%, 25% and 50%, respectively, ofthe total time ofthe main wash cycle. Thus, for example, if the main wash cycle is carried out over a period of 80 minutes, the three sequential stages are: 20 minutes at400C, 20 minutes at 5000 and 40 minutes at 6000.
These temperatures can be attained by any useful means, such as mixing hot and cold water to give the desired temperature at the start of the first stage, and heating up the wash liquorto the required temperature(s) in the next stage(s).
It has been found that by the process ofthe invention, with the holding periods at the specified temperatures, an improved overall detergency performance is obtained both as regards the removal of stains by the enzymes and the removal of stains by the bleaching system. This improvement is even more pronounced at longer main wash times; the resuIts over a wash period of 90 minutes are betterthan those obtained with a wash time of 60 minutes.
The process ofthe invention can be carried out in any suitable washing machine which can be programmedforsequentiallycarrying outthe main wash cycle in stages at adjustable temperatures and periods. The process isespeciallysuitableforwash- ing with a wash liquor comprising a detergent composition which contains enzymes and a lowtemperature bleaching system, e.g. a peroxy bleach compound together with an activatortherefor.
1. A process forwashing fabrics in a main wash liquor between 40 and 60 C, said main wash liquor comprising an enzymatic, lowtemperature bleaching system containing detergent composition, characterized in that the main wash cycle is caried out in at least two sequential stages at40 and 5000 respectivelythe holding time for each stage being 50%, respectively, of the total main wash time.
2. A process according to claim 1, characterized in that the main wash cycle is carried out in three sequential stages at 40, 50 and 6000 respectively the holding time for each stage being 25%, 25% and 50% respectively of the total main wash time.
3. A process according to Claim 1 or2,characterized in that the total main wash time is from 6090 minutes.
