Abstract

Induction motor meters. -The braking effect of the series field is compensated by a shaded-pole element producing an auxiliary driving - torque varying with the load current. This may be produced by a separate shaded-pole electromagnet a with a series winding e and having one or both pole-pieces b, c bifurcated and furnished with a pair of copper rings f on one half of each polepiece. This magnet may co-operate with the main disc or other rotor d or with an additional disc &c. In a modification in which a threelimbed shunt electromagnet and a U-shaped series electromagnet disposed on opposite sides of a disc comprise the driving system, both polepieces of the series magnet are shaded. In another modification in which a three-limbed series electromagnet . and a U-shaped shunt magnet are disposed on opposite sides of the disc, either the centre limb or all three limbs of the series magnet are shaded.
