Abstract

A bed for a pet comprises a bag (12) enclosing a motor vehicle tube (14). The tube (14) is located inside the bag (12) and inflated. The central zone (20) of bed is depressed to provide a cushion for an animal. Alternatively, the bed comprises a peripheral zone formed from a shock absorbent material, e.g. a foam material, which at least partially surrounds a depressed zone of an upper surface of the bed. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Bed for pets This invention relates to a bed for a pet and in particular to a bed having a inflatable cushion.
In the prior art various types of beds such as rugs, mattresses or the like have been provided for the comfort of pets.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved bed for animals such as pets.
According to the invention a bed for an animal comprises a cushion having an inflatable peripheral zone.
In a preferred form of the invention the inflatable preipheral zone is raised and surrounds a central depressed zone. Preferably the peripheral zone is circular.
The inflatable zone preferably comprises a tube for use in a wheel. The tube is preferably enclosed in a flexible cover which is in the form of a bag. The central areas of the tube may constitute the cushion.
The bag is preferably of a size sufficient to enclose the tube in the inflated position as a tight fit. Preferably the tube is inserted into the bag and thereafter inflated.
According to another aspect of the invention a bed for an animal includes a peripheral zone formed from a shock absorbent material and which at least partially surrounds a depressed zone on an upper surface of the bed.
An embodiment of the invention is described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bed for a pet according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a section taken along lines ll-ll of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings a bed 10 for a pet comprises a bag 12 enclosing a tube 14.
The bag 12 is made from a flexible material such as a fabric sheet and has a flap 16 which forms a cover.
The tube 14 comprises a conventional motor vehicle wheel tube. In use the tube 14 is inserted into the bag 12 and inflated through the valve 18 and while the flap 16 is open.
After inflation the flap 16 is replaced.
The central area 20 of the bag 12 is supported by the raised walls of the tube 14 and imparts a cushion effect due to the pressure in the tube. The cushion is at its weakest point at the centre of the area enclosed by the tube 14 hence a tendency for mass placed on the cover 12 to move towards the centre. This has the effect of providing a comfortable bed for the pet. Furthermore the pressure in tube 14 may be adjusted according to the weight of the pet to provide optimal comfort.
As an alternative (not illustrated in the drawings) the tube may comprise a piece of foam material which is shock absorbent. A cover may be fitted over the foam or the foam itself may be shaped to form a central depressed zone on an upper surface of the bed.
1. A bed for an animal comprising a cushion having an inflatable peripheral zone.
2. A bed according to claim 1 in which the peripheral zone is raised and surrounds a central depressed area.
3. A bed according to claim 1 or claim 2 which comprises a circular tube.
4. A bed according to claim 3 in which the tube is enclosed in a cover.
5. A bed according to claim 4 in which the cover fits tightly over the tube when inflated.
6. A bed according to any one of claims 3 to 5 having a motor vehicle tube which is enclosed by the cover to provide a central depressed zone.
7. A bed for an animal including a peripheral zone formed from shock absorbent material and which at least partially surrounds a depressed zone on an upper surface of the bed.
8. A bed for a pet according to any one of claims 1 to 6.
9. A bed substantially as herein described with reference to Figs. 1 or 2 of the accompanying drawings.
