Paddle-wheels; driving arrangements for paddle wheels.-Paddle wheels on a vertical axis have the blades disposed in vertical planes and attached to bevel wheels on horizontal axes, the wheels running around a fixed bevel. The vertical driving shaft a carries a cross shaft e upon which are mounted bevel wheels f<1>, f<2> in mesh with a fixed bevel c. The blades g<1>, g<2> are attached to the bevels f', f<2>, so that in the vertical position they are oppositely directed, but when in the horizontal position they extend in the same direction. Two similar systems may be coupled and arranged 90‹ out of phase.
