Abstract

A cushion comprises an openable cushion cover (1) within which a blanket or rug (2) is adapted to be received and secured therein by means of e.g. a zip fastener (3), the arrangement being such that when required the blanket or rug (2) can be removed from the cushion cover (1) for use for example, by passengers of a motor vehicle, and when not required can be stored away as at least part of the filling of the cushion. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cushion This invention relates to cushions of the type which can be used in, for example, motor vehicles.
It is known to provide cushions for the comfort of passengers in a travelling motor vehicle and such cushions are often purpose made so that, for example, they match the interior trim of the vehicle in which they are carried.
It is known to provide travelling rugs or blankets for the comfort of passengers in motor vehicles but it is often found to be inconvenient to store or otherwise conceal a rug or blanket when it is not required.
The present invention seeks to obviate the disadvantages of providing a separate cushion and blanket particularly but not exclusively for motor vehicle passengers.
According to the invention, there is provided a cushion comprising an openable cushion cover, a blanket or rug adapted to be received snugly within the cover and secured therein, the arrangement being such that, when required, the blanket or rug can be removed from the cushion cover for use and when not required can be simply stored away as at least part of the filling of the cushion.
Conveniently, the cushion cover may be openable and closable by means of a zip fastener or, alternatively, studs or strips of Velcro may be used.
The blanket or rug may be comprised of a cellular construction such that when it is used for a filling for the cover it performs essentially the same functions as a conventional cushion filling.
A blanket or rug may be integrally joined to the cushion or it may be entirely separate.
Conveniently, the rug or cushion in its stored position may constitute the only filling of the cushion but, alternatively, a separate filling may be provided within the cover such that when the blanket or rug is removed the cushion is still usable for support.
The invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The cushion according to this embodiment of the invention comprises a cushion cover 1 which is made up in a conventional manner and provides an envelope within which a blanket 2 can be received.
The blanket 2 is received as a snug fit within the cover 1 and is releasably secured therein by means of a zip fastener 3 stitched around the opening of the cushion.
The blanket 2 performs the function of a filling for the cover 1 when it is stored away therewithin. In use, the zip fastener 3 is opened and the blanket 2 can be removed for use. When it is no longer required it is simply stored away again within the cover 1.
It will be appreciated that the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and various alternative arrangements can be successfully employed, which all utilise the same principle, i.e. of dispensing with the requirements for separate cushions and blankets.
1. A cushion comprising an openable cushion cover, a blanket or rug adapted to be received snugly within the cover and secured therein, the arrangement being such that when required, the blanket or rug can be removed from the cushion cover for use and when not required can be stored away as at least part of the filling of the cushion.
2. A cushion according to claim 1 in which the cushion cover is openable and closable by means of a zip fastener, studs, or strips of Velcro.
3. A cushion according to claim 1 or claim 2 in which the blanket or rug has a cellular construction such that when it is used as filling for the cover it performs essentially the same function as conventional cushion filling.
4. A cushion according to any preceding claim in which the blanket or rug is integ rally joined to the cushion.
5. A cushion according to any one of claims 1 to 3 in which the blanket or rug is separate from the cushion.
6. A cushion according to any preceding claim in which the blanket or rug, when stored within the cushion cover, constitutes the only filling of the cover.
7. A cushion according to any one of claims 1 to 5 in which a separate filling is provided in the cover such that when the blanket or rug is removed the cushion is still usable for support.
8. A cushion substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
