A plastics glazing bead comprises an angle section 2 screwed to a frame, and having a removable front section 1. Rubber gaskets 4 are also provided. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION An Extruded Glass Fixing This invention relates to an extruded glass fixing.
The traditional method of glass to frame fixing has been the use of putty and or wooden glazing beads fixed by means of nails to the frame. These traditional methods have the following drawbacks: 1. Putty being oil based has a tendency to dry out over a period of time and therefore to shrink and eventually crack.
2. Wooden glazing beads are susceptible to weathering and therefore rotting over a period of time.
Due to the above regular maintenance leading to replacement is required to prevent the glass from becoming loose and therefore letting in wind, rain and noise and also causing further damage to the framework.
According to the present invention, there is provided a glass fixing system which alleviates the problems caused by adverse weather conditions.
The main advantage of this invention is the increased life expectancy of the fixing and therefore the entire frame due to the combination of the design and the materials used.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the glazing bead comprises of a removable front section (1) and main extrusion with attached gasket (2). The two component parts being made of uPVC. In order to screw the glazing bead to the frame, holes are provided in the main extrusion at regular intervals (3). A separate self adhesive rubber gasket (4) is provided to be attached to the frame (5) ensuring a water tight seal.
1. An extruded glass fixing provides a fixing system for glass into frames using extruded uPVC and rubber gaskets, the unit being screwed to the frame alleviating the use of wooden beads and putty.
2. An extruded glass fixing as claimed in Claim 1 does not require painting or weather proofing by virtue of the fact that it is extruded in uPVC.
3. An extruded glass fixing as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 has a removable front section which can be taken out when a frame is being painted.
4. An extruded glass fixing as claimed in any preceding claim provides an airtight seal between frame and glass.
