Abstract
216,776. Bukoske, A .J. Oct. 23, 1923. Reels and winches, rod.-A reel in which the axis is at right angles to the rod is mounted on a spindle 6 carried by a shank 7 substantially parallel with the rod and extending away from the handle 4. The reel comprises a plate 10 with radial arms 11 having U-shaped ends 12 which receive the line 13. One side of the plate 10 bears against a shoulder, and the other side has a recess against the bottom of which a flanged bush 16 is adjustably pressed by a spring 22 placed between a non-rotatable washer 21 and a nut 19. The nut has a skirt 20 enclosing the spring to exclude dirt &c. The free edge of the skirt enters a recess in, but normally does not contact with, the plate 10. By screwing the nut up till the skirt engages the bottom of the recess, the reel can be locked if required. The construction of the shank 7 lends itself to adjusting the reel with respect to the first guide-ring 5 on the rod, by bending the shank.
