Abstract
A curtain pole bracket which is adjustable to receive different sizes of poles comprises a first part (1) integral with the wall fixing means (3) and provided with a threaded bore (8) and indentations (7). The other part of the bracket (2) is relatively movable to the first part and fixable in positions by means of a lug (11) engaging indentations (7) locked by screw (13) engaging in bore (8) to accommodate different sizes of curtain pole. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Curtain pole bracket
This invention relates to curtain pole brackets. Such brackets are fixed to a wall orceiling at both sides of for example a window and include a cradle adapted to receive in fairly close engagement a pole from which a curtain may be suspended. For aesthetic and strength reasons, different curtains require different diameters of pole. A long and heavy curtain will require a stouter polethan a short flimsy curtain if the weight is to be withstood without appreciable sagging. Therefore it has been necessary to supply such brackets in different sizes, matched to the different thicknesses of pole. This however causes stacking problems with the number of different brackets which must be kept, and leads to waste. It is an object of this invention to avoid these problems and to permit a bracket with an essentially conventional appearance to be in pieces which are small enough to be packed into slim retail packaging where poles and theirfittings are packed in square, rectangular or round tubing.
According to the invention there is provided a curtain pole bracket in which the pole cradle is formed bytwo relatively movable parts adapted to befixed in differently spaced positions to embracingly receive poles of different sizes. In this way it is necessary to supply only one type of bracketwhich the user can adjustto fit his requirements. It is no longer necessary for a supplierto stock large numbers of differently sized packets, and rationalisation of pre-packed cur tainfixing kits is made possible. Furthermore the hitherto required larger packaging for larger brackets is no longer required since the adjustable bracket of the invention can be sold in its smallest configuration or disassembled, to be enlarged or assembled by the user.Packaging costs are therefore reduced.
Generally, one of the relatively movable cradle parts will be integrally formed with the bracketwall fixing means. The other part can then be slidablyadjustable with respect to the first part, means being provided for fixing both parts in relative position. Such means may for example comprise a threaded fastener engageable in a threaded bore formed in one part and passing through an elongate slot formed in the other part to permit adjustment on loosening the fastener. One of the parts may be formed with atooth or lug adapted to be received in one of a plurality of mating indentations formed in the other part to provide discrete steps of adjustment.
The parts may be cast orforged of brass or the like material, or indeed press-formed from strip metal.
In orderthatthe invention may be readily understood an embodimentthereofwill now be described byway of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a part-sectional side elevation of a bracket according to the invention.
The bracket consists of two parts 1 and 2 which are
relatively movable into different positions shown by the dotted lines.
Part 1 consists of a base 3 which is formed with two
apertures 4through which mounting screws or like
fasteners may be passed to secure the part to a wall or
window frame (not shown). Part 1 also includes a
curved cradle portion 5 and a curved guide portion 6
formed with a pluraiityof indentations7 and a threaded bore 8.
Part 2 includes a further cradle portion 9 and a tail
portion 10 which bears a corresponding curvatureto
Portion 6. Tail portion 10 further includes a tooth or lug
11 which is adapted to mate with various indentations
7 to provide standard sized spacings between the
cradle portions 5 and 9. The tail further includes a slot 12 th roug h which passes a screw fastener 13 which is threadedly received in bore 8. Rosette 16 in cradle 9 is
to secure pole in bracket.
If the screw 13 is suitably loosened, the part 2 may
be slid along portion 6 to vary the spacing between
cradle portions 5 and 9, and may be fixed in any
desired position.
Portion 6 also mounts an integral eyelet 14through
which an end hook on the curtain may be passed.
Tail portion 10 of cradle 9 has an open ended slot in
it where the width of the slot matches the width of
eyelet 14to provide a sliding fit. The object of this slot
is to give greater lateral stability to the whole of cradle
9 which is kept in place with 6 where the slot at all
times wholly or partially engages eyelet 14.
Inan alternative embodiment not shown, the part 1
may be press-formed from strip metal in which the
bridge portion 15will be omitted.
1. A curtain pole bracket in which the pole cradle is ; formed bytwo relatively movable parts adaptedto be
fixed in differently spaced positions to embracingly
receive poles of different sizes.
2. A bracket according to claim 1 in which one of
the relatively movable cradle parts is integrally
formed with the bracket wall fixing means.
3. A bracket according to claim 2 in which the other
part is slidably adjustable with respect to the first part,
means being provided for fixing both parts in relative
position.
4. A bracket according to claim 3 in which the
fixing means comprises a threaded fastener engage
able in athreaded bore formed in one partand passing
through an elongate slotformed in the other part to
permit adjustment on loosening the fastener.
5. A bracket according to any ofthe preceding
claims in which one ofthe parts is formed with a tooth
or lug adapted to be received in one of a plurality of
mating indentations formed in the other part to
provide discrete steps of adjustment.
6. A bracket according to any ofthe preceding
claims in which the parts are cast orforged of brass or
the like material.
7. A bracket according to any of claims 1 to 6 in
which the parts are press-formed from strip metal.
8. A curtain- pole bracket substantially as herein
described with reference to the accompanying
drawing.
