Abstract

A hanger, e.g. for curtains, textiles, comprises a cross member (1) having two depending arms (2, 2'). The arms have spaced pairs of opposed supports (3, 3'; 4, 4'), whereby a curtain-supporting roll (8, 8') may be removably inserted between the opposed supports (3, 3' and 4, 4 min ) of each pair of supports. Thus curtains may be laid across the rolls (8, 8') without causing horizontal creasing. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hanger for curtains The present invention relates to a hanger for curtains.
During display for sale purposes curtains, particularly ready-made curtains, are usually folded a number of times, thus forming undesirable horizontal creases in the curtains.
An object of the present invention is to produce means for displaying and selling curtains avoiding such horizontal creasing.
The invention provides a hanger for curtains as claimed in claim 1.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a front view of a curtain hanger.
The hanger comprises a cross member 1 having two depending arms 2, 2'. The arms 2, 2' have two pairs of vertically-spaced supports 3, 3' and 4, 4'.
Each support comprises a first, upper, substantially horizontal member 5 fixed to arm 2, 2' and a second, lower member 6 fixedly connected between the arm 2 and the first member 5.
A hook 7 is attached centrally to the crossmember 1 so that the hanger can be supported. Preferably, the hanger is made of plastics-coated wire, solid plastics or any other suitable material.
In use a hollow roll 8, 8', e.g. of cardboard, plastics or any other suiutable material is inserted between opposed supports 3, 3' and 4, 4' of each pair of supports as shown in broken line. The arms 2, 2' are moved slightly away from each other to allow insertion of the rolls. The inherent resilience of the wire will return the arms to the vertical.
Curtains are normally sold in pairs. Thus, one curtain is draped over the top roll 8 and one over the lower roll 8'. The pair of curtains may then be enclosed in a plastics bag for protection against dust.
An advantage of this hanger is that the curtains are never folded horizontally and thus lateral creasing is eliminated. Any vertical creasing is masked by the draping of the curtains. A further advantage is that the greater the weight applied to the rolls 8, 8' the tighter the rolls are gripped by the arms 2, 2'. Furthermore the supports 3, 3' and 4, 4' not only support the rolls 8, 8' but also hinder their rotation, so that the curtains do not slip off the hanger.
Further modifications may be made within the scope of the invention. Thus, further pairs of supports could be provided to support additional curtains. The hanger could of course be used for goods other than curtains, eg textiles.
1. A hanger for curtains comprising a cross member and two arms depending therefrom, wherein the arms have spaced pairs of opposed supports, whereby a curtain-supporting roll may be removably inserted between the opposed supports of each pair of supports.
2. A hanger as claimed in claim 1, wherein the opposed supports comprise projections engageable by the end a roll.
3. A hanger as claimed in claim 2, wherein each projection comprises a first member connected to the respective arm and extending towards the other arm, and a second member connected to the said respective arm below the first member and extending upwardly to support the first member.
4. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a hook is attached to the cross member from supporting the hanger.
5. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the pairs of opposed supports are vertically spaced.
6. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein there are two pairs of opposed supports.
7. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims and formed of plasticscoated wire.
8. A hanger for curtains substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
CLAIMS Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows:- 1. A hanger for curtains comprising a cross member and two arms depending therefrom, spaced pairs of opposed supports on the arms, each support comprising a first member connected to the respective arm and extending towards the other arm, and having a substantially-horizontal surface for supporting the end of a curtain-suporting roll and a second member connected to the said respective arm below the first member and extending upwardly to support the first member, whereby a curtain-supporting roll may be removably inserted between the opposed supports of each pair of supports.
2. A hanger as claimed in claim 1, wherein a hook is attached to the cross member for supporting the hanger.
3. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the pairs of opposed supports are vertically spaced.
4. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein there are two pairs of opposed supports.
5. A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims and formed of plasticscoated wire.
