Abstract

An adjustable "sling" type hanger for the storage of a pleated curtain has two different lengths of plastic strapping (B) and (C), which are pivotally connected together. The longer strap (B) is threaded through loops at the ends of the shorter strap (C) to form a choker loop around the head of the pleated and finished curtain. The curtain is thus secured by virtue of the configuration and inherent properties of the material used, in conjunction with its self-locking ability due to friction. The loop formed by the shorter strap (C) is used to support the curtain from a selected point of hanging (normally a hook). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Patent specification for new curtain header hanger The particular invention appertains to a new type of Curtain Header Hanger which is intended for use with finished curtains in the pleated mode, when being stored.
The general field of Curtain Header Hangers is very restricted at present, in as much that only one type is available in the U.K. This is manufactured in the U.S.A. and distributed under licence in the U.K.
by one Company. The American Curtain Header Hanger clamps onto the finished curtain and comprises of two plastic end plates interlocked with two continuously notched plastic straps. Interlocking of the components is achieved by means of purposemade elongated slots and the parts are all manufacture from the injection moulded process. Curtain Header Hangers of this type are extremely expensive to purchase and are rather limited to the middle size range of curtains due to its adjustment capability.
According to the present invention there is provided an adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger which comprises of two different lenghts of flexible plastic strapping (one long and one short), hinged at one end by means of a brassed tubular rivet. The shorter strap is purposely looped over at the ends, also by means of two brassed tubular rivets.
The specific components of the particular invention are listed below in relation to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 depicts the adjustable "sling" type curtain Header Hanger in the vacant position with the brassed tubular rivets detached for clarity.
Figure 2 shows in perspective, the adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger in the normally loaded position.
With reference to the drawing, the adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger consists of two different lengths of flexible plastic strapping (B) and (C), hinged togther at one end by means of a brassed tubular rivet (A). The shorter strap (C) is purposely looped over at both ends, alslo by means of two brassed tubular rivets (A).
In order to suspend a finished curtain, the point of the two rivets (A) must be held with the thumb and forefinger so that the longer strap (B) can be rotated freely to the right-angle position as shown in Figure 1. The loose end of the longer strap (B) is threaded through the opposite small riveted loop of the shorter strap (C) and round again through the similar loop that is being held, thus forming a complete horizontal circle with the longer strap (B). This threading process is carried out until the diameter of the horizontal loop suits the width of the finished and pleated curtain head. It is important that the leading end of the longer strap (B) is threaded on the inside, otherwise the "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger becomes ineffectual. The prepared device is then placed over the head of the finished curtain and the leading end of the longer strap (B) pulled until the curtain is held securely without overtightening (Refer Figure 2).
The shorter strap (C) is utilised as a loop for placing onto the point of hanging (normally a hook).
Due to the configuration and inherent properties of the plastic strapping material, the adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger is self-locking and can simply be released by sliding the double-riveted small loop of the shorter strap (C) around the curtain head, using the thumb.
1. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger comprising of two different lengths of plastic strapping, hinged and looped appropriately by means of three brassed tubular rivets.
2. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger as claimed in 1., wherein the configuration and inherent properties of the material used provides a means of suspending a platedifinished curtain by virtue of its self-locking ability due to friction.
Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: (a) Claims 1-2 above have been deleted or textually amended.
(b) New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows: 1. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger comprising of two different lengths of plastic strapping, hinged and looped by means of three brassed tubular rivets, as indicated on the accompanying drawing.
2. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain Header Hanger as claimed in Claim 1 wherein threading means is provided by two riveted loops, one at each end of the shorter plastic strap, to accept the longer plastic strap.
3. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain header Hanger as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein curtain suspension means is provided by selflocking frictional grip of the longer plastic strap acting upon the curtain head.
4. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain header Hanger as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the loaded device is periodically placed onto a point of hanging in conjunction with the shorter plastic strap.
5. An adjustable "sling" type Curtain header Hanger as claimed in all preceding Claims where in release means of the loaded device is achieved by thumb movement of the unrestrained loop at one end of the shorter plastic strap.
6. An adjustable "sling" type curtain Header Hanger substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
