Abstract

216,221. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., and Gouldbourn, J. Feb. 26, 1923. Cylindrical-cutter type; stationary-cutter apparatus.-A dished knife skiving-machine of the type set forth in Specification 24178/07 or a cylindrical knife machine has means for urging the workpiece laterally of the line of feed in the direction of the margin to be skived. The work is fed by a lower roll 2 resiliently-pivoted on a pin 24, beneath a conical presser foot 9 adjustably mounted on the frame, to a rotating dished knife 1. To urge the work laterallv the feed-roll 2 has formed on its periphery a buttress thread 8. A flexible guard 13 secured to the frame supports the work and is shaped partially to overlap the cutting-edge of the knife so as to limit the contact of the work with the roller to an area close to the skiving- edge and is bevelled to an edge 14 parallel to the underside of the presser roll 9 to form a guideway for the workpiece. In a modification the upper conical roll 15 is spirally ribbed, Fig. 2, and driven from a shaft 16, and the lower roll carries a rib 20. The guard 23 is bevelled to form a parallel channel for the workpiece. Specifications 26300/12 and 193,936, [both in Class 16, Books &c.], also are referred to.
