Abstract

A curtain heading tape is woven from weft threads 12 and warp threads 14. At regular intervals a plurality of extra warp threads 16 are left floating to provide three rows of longitudinally spaced open-ended pockets 18 to receive suspension hooks. There is at least one drawstring 20,22,24, which, in the vicinity of at least one loop, passes under a single weft thread which weft thread passes under the floating threads forming the said one loop. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Curtain heading tapes The invention relates to curtain heading tapes.
A curtain heading tape comprises a length of tape which can be sewn to, or manufactured integrally with, the upper edge of a curtain. The tape has one or more drawstrings which can be used to pleatthetape and hence the curtain. One type of tape also has a plurality of evenly spaced apart, open-ended pockets or loops to provide locations for attaching curtain hooks in orderto suspend the curtain from a curtain rail.
However, there may be several metres of curtain and lining tape and when it comes to pleating the curtain by pulling the drawstrings ofthe heading tape, a considerable effort may be required. This is especially evident where a plurality of drawstrings is provided, since the effort required is multiplied by the number of drawstrings, when compared to a tape with a single drawstring. Moreover, with known curtain heading tapes an uneven pleat often results. We have now designed a curtain heading tape whose drawstrings are considerably easierto pull and which provides a more even pleat in the curtains.
Accordingly, one aspect of the invention provides a curtain heading tape woven form weft and warp threads, at least some warp threads being left floating at intervals to provide a plurality of loops on a firstface of the tape, spaced apart along the length of the tape, each loop being intended to receive a suspension hook, and at least one drawstring which, in the vicinity of at least one loop, passes from the said first face under two spaced apartfirst warp threads which warp threads pass underthe floating threads forming the said one loop, and over at least one second weft thread positioned between the said firstweftthreads.
Preferably, the drawstring is arranged symmetrically in the region ofthe loop.
Afirstweftthread maybe adjacent a boundary of the loop, and preferably two first weft threads are adjacent opposite boundaries of the loop.
A second aspect of the invention provides a curtain heading tape woven form weftand warpthreads, at least some warp threads being left floating at intervals to provide a plurality of loops on a first face of the tape, spaced apart along the length of the tape, each loop being intended to receive a suspension hook, and at least one drawstring, the drawstring and the loop being separated at least one thread.
Preferably, the drawstring and the loop are seperated by a plurality of warp threads.
Athird aspect of the invention provides a curtain heading tape woven from weft and warp threads, at least some warp threads being left floating at intervals to provide a plurality of loops on a first face of the tape, spaced apart along the length ofthetape, each loop being intended to receive a suspension hook, and at least one drawstring which, in the vicinity of at least one loop, passes under a singleweftthread which weft thread passes underthefloating threads forming the said one loop.
Preferably, the single weft thread passes substan tiallycentrally underthe loop.
The loop may comprise a pocket comprising a plurality offloating threads, and there may be a plurality of loops.
There may three parallel rows of loops on the tape and there may be a plurality of drawstrings, e.g.
there may be three drawstrings.
By way of example, a specific embodiment of the invention will now be described, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a view of one face of a portion of an embodimentofcurtain heading tape according to the invention.
Referring to Figure 1, a curtain heading tape 10 is illustrated. This tape is a little overthree inches wide and is fairly stiff across its width so that when it is attached to the top of a curtain and suspended from a curtain rail, part ofthe curtain, being attached to the tape, can protrude above the curtain rail and hide it, thus removing the need to provide a pelmet.
The tape 10 comprises interwoven transversely extending weftthreads 12 and longitudinally extend ing warp th reads 14. At regular intervals a plurality of extra warp threads 16 are left floating to provide three rows of longitudinally-spaced open-ended pockets 18.
The pockets 18 are aligned in the sense that the same weftthreads pass through each group of three pockets. Each pocket 18 is designed to receive a portion of a curtain hook in orderto suspend a curtain from a curtain rail. In practice, only one row of pockets is used, depending on how easy it is to conceal the curtain rail.
Three drawstrings 20,22,24 are also provided. The central drawstring 22 is positioned approximately in the centre of the tape 10, while the two outer drawstrings 20,24 are positioned nearthe edge of the tape and are separated from the outer ends of the outer pockets 18 by several warp threads 14. As can be seen in Figure 1, the drawstrings 20,22,24 lie mainly on the same side ofthetape as the pockets 18, but in the vicinity the pockets the drawstrings are arranged to lie on the opposite side of the tape atthree locations. The drawstrings pass underthetwo weft threads 26,28 immediately outside one edge of the pockets and under the first weftth read 30 immediately inside that edge of the pockets. The drawstrings then lie on the same side of the tape as the pockets fortwo more weft threads then pass under a single weft thread 32 which passes down the centre line ofthe pockets 18. The drawstrings then pass overtwo more weftthreads and lie on the same side ofthetape as the pockets 18then pass underthefirstthread 34 immediately inside the other edge ofthe pockets and underthefirsttwo weft threads 36,38 immediately outside that edge ofthe pockets. It will be seen that each drawstring is arranged symmetrically aboutthe central axis of each pocket. This arrangement is repeated at each pocket location.
A curtain heading tape such as that described provides a more even pleat in a curtain and makes the drawstrings easierto pull.
The invention is not restricted to the details ofthe foregoing embodiment.
