Press-button fasteners; buttons.-The stud part a of a snap fastener is provided with an elongated head c above a neck b which is adapted to be engaged by a spring g on the socket f, the socket f having a deep recess e whose walls d engage the head c of the stud at a substantial distance from the entrance so as to prevent separation of the parts by a sidewise pull. As shown in Fig. 1, the device is employed as a two-part button, the two parts being detachably connected through the under edge k of the garment, the upper edge t of which is provided with a button-hole j with which the ornamental base l of the stud part is adapted to be engaged. The stud a may be sewn to the edge t by applying a needle to the underside of the fabric, Fig. 3, and passing it transversely through holes n in the draw m, or the stud a may have a flat base r, Fig. 7, formed with curved depressions o separated by transverse bars p around which the sewing-thread is passed by a curved needle q. In a modification, the depressions are dispensed with, the bars p being pressed up from the surface r, in which case a straight needle is employed.
