Abstract

An automatic device for stacking sacks or similar directly on a transport pallet in a desired pattern comprises a belt or a corresponding link conveyor (2), which feeds the sacks onto a turning device (3) and a main conveyor (4), situated underneath the turning device. Either the conveyors (2, 4) or pallet (14) are vertically mobile. The main conveyor (4) is divided into two or more sections, powered separately or together e.g. by fixed pulleys (8, 9), mobile pulleys (10, 12) and a belt (11) for selective use with various dimensions of articles. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Automatic stacking device for sacks or similar This invention concerns an automatic stacking device for sacks or similar, whereby the sack layers are formed directly on the transport pallet in desired order by using a combined conveyor system comprising a belt or corresponding link conveyor, which feeds the sacks onto a turning device, and a main conveyor situated underneath the turning device.
From the Finnish patent claim 79 09 88 a device is known, by which the sacks are arranged in layers in certain patterns directly on the transport pallet three-dimensionally by using a combined conveyor system comprising a belt or similar conveyor turnably jointed horizontally and vertically onto an appropriate feeding track and a vertically and horizontally mowable turning device, by which the sacks or similar are turned into a position according to the stacking pattern, and which feeds the positioned sacks onto the stacker. The stacking device comprises an extractable and retractable feeding conveyor situated underneath the turning device, the width of the feeding conveyor approximately corresponding to the width of the items to be stacked.
The system mentioned above however shows some deficiencies. Its function is not very swift, the combination is lengthy and the construction is suitable for only one sack dimension. A further disadvantage is the inability of changing the width of the feeding conveyor of this device. This implies that when the sack lies squarely on the feeding conveyor, the sack ends will hang over the edges of the feeding conveyor. If the sacks are even a little loose as often is the case, the forming of a proper stack is impossible. Furthermore there is a risk of damaging the sacks.
The purpose of this invention is to produce a shorter and more swiftly operating stacking device for sacks. The purpose is furthermore to produce a device, whereby sacks of different dimensions may be handles without risking damage, and whereby proper stacking patterns may be maintained. This purpose will be achieved thus that the main conveyor, which also works as stacker, is divided into two or more parallel sections, whereof at least one is powered by the known mechanism, comprising the fixed pulleys, the mobile pulleys and the belt thus that the section is extendable and retractable.
Hereby one conveyor may be omitted, compared to the formerly known system.
Further the main conveyor may either be vertically movable or fixed. The further characteristics of this invention will appear from the enclosed sub-claims.
One favourable construction mode is explained below with references to the enclosed drawing, where: Picture 1 shows the device the side-projection, and Picture 2 shows the device in top-projection.
In picture 1 the link conveyor 2, following the movements of the main conveyor 4, feeds the sack onto an overhead turning device 3, fitted with pneumatic turning discs, whereby the sacks are turned into desired position. In this phase the transport pallet 14 on the stacking lift 13 is in its upper position. The main conveyor 4 is moving sidewise and the turning device is delivering the sack for example into section B, which feeds the sack onto the transport pallet 14, situated on the stacking lift 13. The section B, as well as the sections A and C are powered by a mechanism comprising the fixed pulleys 8 and 9 and the thereto attached belt 11. The movement of the mobile pul leys 10 and 12 makes the desired section to operate as delivering conveyor, i.e. stacker of the sacks.
In the version shown by the drawing the width of section B of the main conveyor 4 corresponds approximately to the width of the sack and the total width of the sections A, B and C corresponds approximately to the length of the sack. Thus section B delivers the sacks lengthwise onto the stack and the sections A, B and C together deliver the sacks sidewise onto the stack. When one layer is completed on the transport pallet 14, the stacking lift 13 descends one storey and the procedure is repeated.
There also are cases when the length or width of the sack is virtually the same as that of two sections of the main conveyor, either A+B or B+C. In this case the sack is to be located unsymmetrically on the main conveyor 4. In the case shown by the drawing this is achieved thus, that the front stopper 15 of the turning device 3 is moved forward according to the total width of the sections A and B or the sections B and C.
In the case shown by the drawing the stoppers 6 of the main conveyor are positioned at the location of the stacking lift 13, in order to achieve a more accurate positioning of the sacks. The stoppers 6 are however not indispensable.
According to the drawing the vertical location is achieved by using the stacking lift 13. Instead of using the lift the conveyors 2 and 4 may be arranged to move vertically, in which case the stacking lift is superfluous.
According to the drawing the link conveyor 2 is turnable sidewise as shown by the arrow 16. The main conveyor 4 is sideways following the movements of the link conveyor 2, without actually turning. It is also feasable that the main conveyor 4 is not at all moving sideways, but the link conveyor 2 is guiding the sacks sidewise into desired positions on the main conveyor 4.
All the functions mentioned above are achieved by using the control board, the control devices of which are equipped with programmable logic.
This invention is not limited to the described mode of operation, but may be modified according to the enclosed patent claims. Thus the sectors A, B, C may amount to only two or to more than three sectors. The more sectors there are and the narrower they are, the more flexible is the function of the device.
Although only the stacking of sacks has been mentioned, the device may be applied to stacking a variety of packages onto transport pal lets in certain patterns. One typical method of application is the stacking of bundles of empty sacks at sack factories.
