The presently preferred exemplary embodiment will be described in detail with reference to the following drawings, wherein;
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of a combined door hinge and electric switch constructed accordingtotheinvention;
Fig. 2 is a partially sectioned view ofthe same embodiment;
Fig. isan explodedviewofthe same embodiment;
Fig. 4 is a sectioned viewtaken along the line A-A of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a view ofthe second electric contact element which is inverted.
Referring to Figs. 1,2 and 3, there is shown a combined door hinge and electric switch assembly 1 which includes a sleeve 10 having an attachment plate 12 integrally formed therewith for attaching to the door. Atthe two ends ofthe sleeve 10 are pivoted another attachment plate 11 which is adapted to attach to a door frame. Inside the sleeve 10 is fixedly mounted a hollow core member 2 by means of attach screws 101. The core 2 includes an inwardly projecting annular member 21 through which is passing a pivot pin 3. The annular member 21 divides the core 2 into two parts which respectively cooperate with the upper and lower portions ofthe sleeve lotto accomodatetwo switch assemblies as better shown in Fig. 2.As the hinge 1 has a symmetry in relation to the annular member 21, the construction thereof is hereinunder described with reference to the upper portion relative to the annular member 21 for simplification.
The core 2furtherincludesashoulderformation 22 and two notches 231 provided at its top end face 23. In the core 2 is an electric contact positioning means which has a rotary member4which includes a cylindrical body 43, a disc portion 41 with a diametrically crossed protrusion 42, and a worm gear portion 44. The rotary member 4 is located above the annular member 21 in such a mannerthatthe body 43 engages with the shoulderformation 22 and the disc portion 41 engages with thetop end face 23.
There isfurther provided an adjustment worm member 5 which is received in a rectangular window 25 in the wall of the core 2. The worm member 5 has two journal ends 52 mounted in the wall of the core 2 through holes 24 and 27. For simplifying the assembly of parts, it is preferable to divide the hollow core 2 through a plane which divides the hole 24 along its axis and then couple the divided parts together by using keys 26.
As shown in Fig. 4, the worm gear portion44 of the rotary member4 is in an interengaging relationship with the worm 5. Therefore the rotary member4can revolve about the pin 3 when the attachment plate 12 is turned. On the disc portion 41 ofthe rotary member 4 is provided a circular electric contact element 61 which has a bottom groove 611 receiving the diametri cally crossed protrusion 42 of the rotary member 4. At the upperside ofthe element61 is a recessed surface on which is mounted a U-shaped conductive spring plate 612 with bent contact ends 613 and 614.
There is further provided another circular electric contact element 62 above the contact element 61. The element 62 has two segmented annulus shaped conductive plates 621 and 622 at the bottom side thereof, ends ofthe conductive plates 621 and 622 being angularly spaced apart as bettershown in Fig. 5 in which the electric contact element 62 is reversed.
The upper side ofthe electric contact element 62 is provided with a diametrically crossed groove 625 which receives a protrusion of a mounting member 7, thereby coupling the electric contact element 62 to the mounting member7. The mounting member7 is further affixed by means of screws 102, to lugs 121 which is in the form of a circular plate projecting from the attachment plate 11,thereby pivoting the plate 11 aboutthe pin 3. There is still further provided a sleeve 9 resting on the top end face ofthe core 2 and encasing the electric contact elements 61 and 62. It is fixed to the sleeve 10 by means of an attach screw 103.
The pivot pin 3 is passing through the rotary member 4, electric contact elements 61 and 62, mounting member 7 and lugs 121 and is provided with two circular heads 8 at its endsforclamping all
members in the sleeve 10. As the contact element 61 is in a fixed relationship with the attachment plate 12, it will rotate when plate 12 is turned aboutthe pin 3. The contact element 62 is stationary when the hinge 1 is in use as it is in a fixed relationship with the attachment plate 11 which is attached to the stationary frame. It can be appreciated, at a certain angular position, the bent contact ends 613 and 614 may bridge the conductive plates 621 and 622.Accordingly, through the movement ofthe plate 12, the contact elements 61 and 62 can be placed in on or off condition.The conductive plates 621 and 622 are respectively connected to wires 623 and 624 which are adapted to be directed to electric systems, such as, alarming device, lighting device, etc.
In the wall ofthe sleeve 10 is further provided an opening 1 3which can be in registration with the holes 24 when the core 2 is turned to a proper position relative to the sleeve 10. The core 2 can be turned when the screw 101 is detached and a torque is applied to the core 2 with a means that can engage in the groove 231 of the top end face 23 ofthe core 2.
When the opening 13 is registered with the hole 24, one can use a screw driverto turn the worm 5 through the groove 51. As the wormS is turned, its movement will be transmitted to the worm gear portion 44 and then the electric contact element 61. Through the
movement ofthe contact element 61, the position of the conductive spring plate 612 relative to the
conductive plates 622 and 621 can be regulated. The
contact elements 61 and 62 can be set to normally on
or normally off condition by regulating the position of the spring plate 612. Further, the movement of the worm Scan also adjustthe required angulardisplace- ment ofthe plate 12 to change the contact elements 61 and 62 from on condition to off condition orviceversa, that is to say, it adjusts the sensitivity of the hinge and switch assembly 1.If the contact element 81 and 62 are less sensitive, the alarming device to which it is connected will not operate until the door is opened to some angular distance. If the hinge 1 is too sensitive, the alarming device will operate even when the door swings slightly because of wind.
When the hinge 1 is in use, the plate 11 is attached to the door fame and the plate 12 is attached tothe door.
As the hinge 1 includes two electric contact assemblies it can be connected to two electric systems. In case that the hinge 1 is connected to an alarming device of manual circuit-breaking type, the contact elements 61 and 62 can be set to normally on condition when the door is closed. Atthattime, the alarming device does not operate. When the door is opened,the movement of the plate 12 is transmitted to the contact element 61 so that the elements 61 and 62 are changed to off condition which will causes the alarming device to sound until the alarming device is manually reset. If the alarming device is of manual electrically-setting type, the contact elements 61 and 62 can be setto normally off condition when the door is closed.
When the hinge 1 is connected to a lighting device, the device may produce a lightwhenthe dooris opened. This will provide a convenience when someone comes back home orgoes out at night. The lighting device can be installed at the outside or inside ofthe door.
With the invention thus explained, it is apparent that obvious modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope ofthe invention. It is therefore intended that the invention be limited only as indicated in the appended claims.
