Abstract

A bill taking-in apparatus is used for a bill receiving machine, a bill counting machine, or the like. The bill taking-in apparatus comprises a mounting plate 5 for mounting or positioning received bills in an accumulated condition and a vertical plate 7 for contacting the edges of bills 5 on the mounting plate. An opening 6 is provided between the mounting plate and the vertical plate for allowing small volumes of bills to pass therethrough. A shutter 15 is provided on the vertical plate to be movable therealong. The opening 6 is closed by the shutter while bills are accumulating in the loading section 3; however, kick-out roller 9 and take-in roller 10 rotate so that bills tend to become aligned at the lower end of mounting plate 5; shutter 15 is only raised when bills are to be sent consecutively to the feed section 4 of the machine body. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Bill taking-in apparatus BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a bill-taking-in apparatus for separating bills one by one that are loaded in a bill receiving machine, a bill counting machine, or the like, so as to take them into a machine body.
Figs. 1 and 2 show an example of a conventional case in which a bill-taking-in apparatus 2 is installed on the machine body 1 of a bill receiving machine. A shown in Fig. 2, the bill-taking-in machine 2 comprises a bill-loading section 3, which is recessed to deposit bills S in a collected condition, and a separating and feeding section 4 for separating one by one bills S deposited in this bill-loading section 3 so as to take the bills into the machine body 1.The arrangement of the billloading section 3 is such that it is constituted by: a mounting plate 5 with a downward gradient at its end; a vertical plate 7 which has an opening 6 to allow small volumes of bills S to pass between the end of this mounting plate 5 and the vertical plate 7 and which is brought into contact with the edge of bills S to arrange them; and a kick-out roller 9 facing the surface of the mounting plate 5 and having a projection 8 for kicking out one by one bills S on the mounting plate 5 from the lowermost layer to the opening 6.The separating and feeding section 4 is constituted by a take-in roller 10 which faces the opening 6 in proximity with the mounting plate 5 and is brought into contact with the lowermost layer of the bills S on the mounting plate 5 so as to take the bills S into the machine body 1 by means of a frictional force greater than the friction between the respective bills S, and a frictional member 1 2 which is disposed opposed to the surface of this take-in roller 10 and imparts a frictional force to the bills S which are passing a bill-transporting space 11 for preventing a diagonal feed, a double feed or the like. A transportion path 1 3 for transporting the take-in bills S to a discriminating section (not shown) or the like is connected to the take-in roller 10 of the separating and feeding section 4.
However, according to this type of billtaking-in apparatus, there are drawbacks in that in cases where bills S to be deposited are not properly aligned such as by the mixing in of the various bills in circulation or in cases where the bills S become misaligned at the time of the mounting of the bills, a number of bills S may contact the surface of the take-in roller 10 and get taken in as their edges enter the opening 6. In such a case, it is not possible to prevent a double feed by the corrective action of the frictional member 1 2.
As a result, there have been cases in which bills S get jammed and the rate of removing faulty bills at the discriminating section increases.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the invention is to provide a bill-taking-in apparatus which is capable of preventing primarily a double feed or the like by stabilizing the bill taking-in condition.
According to the present invention, there is provided a bill-taking-in apparatus comprising a mounting plate for accumulating fed-in bills, a vertical plate for coming into contact with the edges of bills fed onto said mounting plate, an opening between said mouting plate and vertical plate for allowing small volumes of bills to pass therethrough and into a machine body, and a shutter provided on said vertical plate to be movable there along, said shutter normally closing said opening and, at the time of the taking in of the bills opening said opening.
To attain such an object, this invention is characterised in that a shutter is provided at the opening of a bill-loading section so that the edges of bills will not project from this opening and, at the same time, the edges of the bills can be aligned.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description made with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a conventional bill receiving machine having a bill-taking-in apparatus; Figure 2 is a schematic illustration of a billtaking-in apparatus used in Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a cross sectional view for showing an embodiment of the bill-taking-in apparatus according to the invention; Figures 4 and 5 illustrate the operation of a shutter opening/closing mechanism; Figures 6 to 8 show a schematic illustration of the bill-taking-in operation.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODI MENT Description is now made of an embodiment shown in Figs. 3 through 8. With respect to a bill-taking-in apparatus 14, a shutter 1 5 is provided vertically movably to and along the vertical plate 7 of a bill-loading section 3. The shutter 1 5 normally closes an opening 6 and opens the same at the time of taking in bills by means of a separating and feeding section 4.
As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the opening/closing mechanism of the shutter 1 5 includes a solenoid 17, a sliding piece 1 9 secured to the cylinder 1 8 of this solenoid and moving horizontally in the direction shown by the arrow (a), and a controlling piece 20 rotating by means of the horizontal movement of this sliding piece 1 9. The shut ter 1 5 is pivotally supported at the end of this controlling piece 20. By means of the rotation of this controlling piece 20, the shutter 1 5 is moved vertically in the direction shown by the arrow (b) along the vertical plate 7. Normally, the shutter 1 5 closes the opening 6 and opens the same at the time of taking in bills by means of the separting and feeding section 4.
Description will be made of the operation of the bill-taking-in apparatus having such an arrangement, with reference to Figs. 6 through 8.
If bills S are loaded with the opening 6 of the bill-loading section 3 closed by the shutter 15, the bills S are, of course, prevented from entering the opening 6, as shown in Fig. 6.
However, if, in this condition, sections other than the shutter opening/closing mechanism 1 6 are in the operating condition, a take-in roller 10 and kick-out roller 9 are rotated in the direction shown by the arrows in Fig. 7.
As a result, the edges of the bills S contacting the take-in roller 10 are pulled and are caused to contact the shutter 15, and, at the same time, all the bills S are caused to slide in the direction toward the lower end of the mounting plate 5 by means of the vibrating action of the kick-out roller 9. This causes the edges of the bills S to come into contact with the vertical plate 7 and the shutter 1 5 so as to be aligned. Then, if the shutter closing/opening mechanism is operated to open the opening 6, since the edges of bills S are aligned, bills S in the lowermost layer are sent consecutively to the separating and feeding section 4 in the direction shown by the arrow in Fig. 8 so as to be taken into the machine body 1.
Thus, the bill-taking-in apparatus according to the present invention has the following effects: It is possible to prevent the edges of bills from entering the opening such as at the time of loading bills, since the opening of the bill-loading section is normally closed by a shutter. At the same time, after the edges of bills are aligned by means of the kick-out roller, the opening is opened for effecting the operation for taking bills into the machine body. Therefore, since the condition of taking in bills is stabilized, it is possible to take in one bill after another from the lowermost layer, and it is possible to prevent a double feed. As a result, it is possible to prevent the jamming of bills and prevent bills from being removed as faulty bills.
