Abstract

A display prong comprising a retention member 12 a cantilever member 111 and a flap member 13 said flap member depending from a free end 112 of said cantilever member 111, said flap member 13 being arranged to allow a tag to be accepted bearing information, said cantilever member 111 with the flap member 13 rabatted to the cantilever member 14 being able to be inserted into or withdrawn from a slot S in a slotted display card C1-C4. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Display prong This invention relates to a display prong for use in the display of a price tag and to hold one or a plurality of slotted display cards.
Slotted display cards are widely used in supermarkets to display goods for sale. It is usual hitherto to put the cost of the article on the card per se but this has serious drawbacks when prices have to be adjusted.
According to the present invention there is provided a display prong comprising a retention member a cantilever member and a flap member, said flap member depending from a free end of said cantilever member, said flap member being arranged to allow a tag to be accepted bearing information, said cantilever member, with the flap member rabatted to the cantilever member, being able to be inserted into or withdrawn from a slot in a slotted display card.
The invention will be more fully understood from the following description given by way of example only with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 is a view in oblique perspective of one improved bracket of the invention; Figure 2 is a similar view to that of Fig. 1 of another improved bracket of the invention; Figures 1A and 2A are respectively sectional views taken on section stations l.l and ll.ll of Figs. 1 and 2; and Figure 3 is a schematic showing a bracket in use on a wall structure and supporting a number of slotted display cards; and Figures 4 and 4A are views in oblique perspective of a preferred form of display prong Fig. 4A being a mere detail of the prong attached to a wire peg board fitment.
In Fig. 1 a display prong shown generally at 10 comprises a simple overhanging cantilever member 11, that projects from a back surface B, onto which it is retained by a forked retention member 1 2.
The cantilever member 111 has at its free end 112 a depending flap member 1 3 that carries a replaceable price tag 1 4. The depending flap member 1 3 is highed at 1 5 to the free end 112.
The cantilever member 11 has a recess 11, that is able to receive the flap member 1 3 when it is rabatted into the said recess thus allowing the free end 112 to be entered into and removed from an aperture or slot in a slotted display card (not shown), the cross section of the cantilever member being substantially not increased by the flap.
The display prong of Fig. 2 is substantially identical to that of Fig. 1 but the recessed portion 1132 has a different form to receive the flap 1 32.
The two different forms of the recessed portion 113 are made clear from the sectional views taken on section stations l.l. and ll.ll of Figs. 1 and 2 respectively.
The depending flap member 1 3 is provided with suitable edge guides (not shown) arranged to take an easily removable price tag.
In Fig. 3 a display prong of the invention shown generally at 10 is seen in situ attached by its retention member 1 2 to a back support structure B, in a supermarket, for example.
The cantilever member 111 at its free end 112 has with the flap member 1 3 rabatted into the recess 113 (not shown) been inserted into slot S of slotted display cards C, C2 C3 C4 etc. Once the free end 112 has passed through the slots the flap member 1 3 depends, as shown, from its hinge at 1 5 to display its price tag which is the cost of the item 16 displayed on the card Ct.
Clearly any card C, C2 C3 etc can readily be withdrawn from the cantilever 111 and new cards equally readily inserted onto it. Price tags 14 showing a change of price can also readily be inserted into the flap member 1 3.
The display prong 10 can be made of metal or of a strong and durable plastics material and various refinements of asethetic design features incorporated into it. One very useful material is glass filled nylon and clear acrylic.
In Figs. 4 and 4A a preferred form of display prong has a spring forked retention member 1 22 that is able to be sprung over a wire peg board fitment shown at 1 23. The depending flap member 1 33 has a clear acrylic cover 1 34 to entrap a price ticket. As in Figs. 1, 2 so in Fig. 4 the flap member 1 33 when rabatted under the cantilever member 11, fits into a recess 11 3.
1. A display prong comprising a retention member a cantilever member and a flap member, said flap member depending from a free end of said cantilever member, said flap member being arranged to allow a tag to be accepted bearing information, said cantilever member, with the flap member rabatted to the cantilever member, being able to be inserted into or withdrawn from a slot in a slotted display card.
2. The display prong as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the retention member is a fork.
3. The display prong as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the fork is a spring fork.
4. The display prong as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the flap member has a clear cover that entraps a price tag between itself and said flap member.
5. The display prong as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the flap member is rabatted under the cantilever member in a recess that receives it so as substantially not to increase the sectional cross section of the cantilever member.
6. A display prong constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described
