Abstract

A canopy for a child's pushchair or stroller comprises a laminar structure (1) which has a certain degree of flexibility and which has at its sides flaps (5) which are pivotally connected to side members (7). The side members (7) are adapted to be detachably connected to the sides (9') of the seat back (9) of a pushchair or stroller by means of lugs (18). The pivotal connection (14) between each of the side flaps (5) of the canopy and the side members (7) is arranged to permit the angle of the canopy in relation to the side members to be adjusted and to hold and maintain the canopy in a desired adjusted position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Canopy for a child's pushchair or stroller This invention refers to canopies for children's pushchairs or strollers.
Several types of canopies for children's pushchairs or strollers are already known, many of them generally being provided with an arcuate metal frame which is located on the body of the pushchair or stroller and other means arranged with flat frames and provided with rather complex means for detachable positioning on the body of the pushchair or stroller or directly on the seat of the pushchair or stroller.
The present invention aims to provide a canopy for a child's pushchair or stroller which has a simplified structure and in which the angle of the canopy in relation to the seat back of the pushchair or stroller can be readily adjusted.
Accordingly, the invention provides a canopy for a child's pushchair or stroller comprising a laminar structure having a certain degree of flexibility and having at its sides flaps which are pivotally connected to side members adapted to be connected to the seat back of a pushchair or stroller, the pivotal connection between the side flaps of the canopy and the side members being arranged to permit the angle of the canopy in relation to the side members to be adjusted and to hold and maintain the canopy in a desired adjusted position.
Preferably, the pivotal connection between each side flap and the associated side member comprises a respective scrw and nut which serves to hold the flap and side member together the two screws being located on a common axis about which the flaps and hence the canopy can pivot, and wherein, in each pivotal connection, one of the flaps or side members is provided with projections and the other of the flaps or side members is provided with recesses adapted to receive the projections to hold the flaps and side members in a desired angular position in relation to one another.
The flaps are desirably pivotally connected to the side members adjacent to the rear of the canopy and the flaps preferably extend from the sides of the canopy to a greater extent at the rear of the anopy than at the front thereof.
Preferably, each side member is provided with a lug which is adapted to connect the side member in a detachably manner to a respective side of the seat back of a pushchair or stroller. The arrangement of detachable engaged lugs on the seat back enables the canopy to be secured in either direction on the seat back which is advantageous in those cases where the seat back can adopt either of two opposed positions, one in the forward sense of the pushchair or stroller and the other in the reverse sense, the canopy then being particularly suitable for the seat back with detachable lugs which forms the subject of Spanish Utility Model No. 263 690.
The invention will now be further described, by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a canopy acording to the invention fitted to the back of a seat of a child's pushchair or stroller; and Figure2 is a cross-section through the pivotal connection between the canopy and lugs of the seat back shown in Figure 1, to an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawings, the canopy comprises a laminar structure 1 consisting of a lined and stuffed sheet which has a certain degree of flexibility and which enables transverse folding of the pushchair or stroller without removing the canopy. The laminar structure is transversally reinforced at its front and rear edges with respective transverse strips 2 and 3 which impart to the canopy a slightly arcuate form in the transverse direction of the canopy while the canopy is substantially straight in its longitudinal direction being aided in this by the provision of cleats or strips 4.
Along each of its side edges, the canopy has a respective flap 5 comprising a semi-rigid plate 6 provided with a conveniently lined and stuffed layer.
The flaps 5 are pivotally connected to the upper regions of respective side members 7 which are connected by a laminar body 8 which is detachably fixed and juxtaposed on the top area of the seat back 9 of the pushchair or stroller.
The side members 7 also comprise respective semi-rigid plates 10 which are angularly disposed in relation to further plates 10' which are located in the side portions of the laminar body 8.
The flaps 5 and side members 7 are interconnected by respective screws 11 which act jointly as a pivoting shaft. The head of each screw 11 is covered by a cap 12 of plastics material and its other end is engaged by a respective nut 13 which is covered by a disc-shaped cover 14.
The canopy can be located and secured in various different positions in relation to the seat back 9 and this is achieved by the engagement of projections 15 which are formed on the plates 6 in recesses 16 which are provided in the plates 10, the projections being formed as a concentric circle surrounding the pivoting shaft formed by the screws 11. The projections 15 can be forced out of one recess and moved on to enter the next adjacent recess by flexing the plates 10 in relation to the plates 6, this flexing being made possible by the provision of a respective resilient and flexible bushing 17 which surrounds the associated screw 11.
Both side members 7 and also the laminar body 8 have a stuffed filling in order to provide a higher degree of comfort for a child seated in the pushchair or stroller.
The canopy is detachably connected to the sides 9' of the seat back 9 by means of lugs 18 so that the canopy can be removed if required or arranged at either of the two sides of the seat back.
The invention also extends to a child's pushchair or stroller which is fitted with the above-described canopy.
