Abstract

Corner-joints; joints between box bottoms and bodies; lids.- Water and air-tight joints are formed between the meeting edges of the sides, and of the sides and bottom of a box container. by applying a single strip of metal over the end of each edge and the two adjacent sides thereof of each pair of meeting sides and of the sides and bottom so that the portions of the strips on the outside of the box are of double thickness. The vertical meeting edges of each pair of sides 6 are connected by a strip 12 bent and fastened as shown and the meeting edges of a side 6 on the bottom 7 are connected by a strip 8 similarly bent and secured; battens may be applied inside the case to receive the nails or staples 11. Each edge of the lid 13 is provided with a metal channel 16 formed by a strip 14 applied over the edge and the two adjacent sides thereof; the channels receive the top edges of the sides and are secured thereto when the lid is in position; the lid is preferably mounted on battens 17. Modified forms of lids are described.
