Abstract
214,484. Martin, P. A. May 31, 1923. Hasp fastenings; hasp locks.-In a fastening for trunks, bags, attachÚ cases &c. in which a pair of hasps 1 are adapted to engage in vertical slots 8 in a casing 2 and to be secured therein by two bolts, either integral or separate, the bolts are adapted to be operated successively by a single knob. In the construction, Figs. 3 and 6, the sliding member 3, carrying the bolt heads 4, is held in the central position by a spring 10 and operated by a knob 5 connected to the member 3 by shanks 6 which pass through a slot or slots 7 in the casing 2. To release the hasps, the knob is moved first in one direction to release one of the bolts and then in the reverse direction to release the other bolt. The member 3 may be locked in its central position by any suitable keyoperated mechanism 11, the key being inserted either through the key-hole in the knob 5 or through a key-hole in the casing 2. In the modification, Figs. 9 and 10, separate spring-pressed bolts 17 are operated by a knob 19 carrying pins 20 passing through slots in the casing 14 or slots 21 in the bolts 17. The spring means may be in the form of coiled springs 16 carried on guide rods 23 on one bolt which move within holes 24 in the other bolt. Stops 25 may be formed at each end of the bolt guides 15 to limit the outward movement of the bolts. To release the hasps the knob 19 is moved first in one direction to release one of the bolts, the pin 20 moving idly in the slot 211 in the other bolt, and then in the reverse direction to release the other bolt in a similar manner. The bolts 17 may be locked by a keyoperated lever, the key being inserted through. the key-hole 26 in the knob 19.
