Abstract

A reusable display notice, particularly a sales ticket for carrying a handwritten price, comprising a front transparent plastics sheet 1 printed on its rear surface with an opaque layer 2 of a first colour. The opaque layer is windowed, in the form of lettering or design and is backed by a second layer 3 of a second colour, the second layer being visible from the front of the notice through the windowing in the opaque layer. In use, the notice has handwritten price or wording marked thereon, by felt pen or like soluble ink, the opaque layer serving as background, and after use the hand-writing is washed off for reuse of the notice. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to display notices and the like Background This invention relates to display notices and the like such as sales tickets and price tickets.
Reusable price tickets are known having a blank surface upon which price can be handwritten in soluble ink or paint and, after use, washed from the price ticket for its reuse.
Non-reusable tickets of printed card are also known. Such tickets may be printed with bright or "Dayglo" (R.T.M.) inks to attract attention.
It has been suggested to provide a reusable price ticket comprising a solid-printed layer faced with a transparent sheet to take handwritten price figures in water-soluble ink which, after use, may be washed off the transparent sheet surface.
The object of the present invention is to provide a reusable display notice having a front transparent layer, upon which price or text can be handwritten, and two rear layers providing for permanently printed text and/or design in contrasting colours.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a display notice having a front transparent member carrying upon its rear surface a windowed opaque first layer, said first layer being covered on its rear surface by a backing layer such that the backing layer is visible from the front of the notice through said window of said first layer.
Short Description of the Drawing In order that the invention may readily be carried into practice, one embodiment, with certain alternatives, will now be described in detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing, the sole figure of which shows a three-layer reusable display notice in exploded, isometric view.
Description of the Example In the accompanying drawing, the threelayer reusable display notice there shown has a front transparent member 1 of plastics sheet material. A layer 2 is printed in an opaque ink onto the rear surface of the member 1.
In this example, the layer 2 is printed onto the member 1, using a "Dayglo" (R.T.M.) ink, by a known silk-screen process.
The printed layer 2 includes a window 5 which spells the letters S-A-L-E, that is, the window 5 is formed by the reverse printing of the letters S-A-L-E. A backing layer 3 is printed onto the rear surface of the layer 2 so that it shows through the window 5. The backing layer 3 is also opaque and is of a contrasting colour to the layer 2. Hence the letters S-A-L-E appear from the front of the notice in the contrasting colour of the layer 3.
Since the layer 2 is opaque, it will be evident that, for the effect described, the layer 3 need extend no more than to cover the area of the window 5. However, it is preferred to print a solid block over the entire area of the member 1, to provide a continuous, uniform rear surface which is not soluble in water and so is not affected when the handwritten text is washed off.
The backing layer 3 is printed with a commonly-used screen-printing ink, such as that supplied by Dane s Co. Ltd. of Stratford, London, E. 15, which provides a water-insoluble layer.
In the drawing, a handwritten price "4-95" is shown on the front surface of the transparent member 1, as it might be written in soluble ink, in use of the notice. After use, the price marking would be washed off the member 1 ready for the reuse of the notice.
In the example shown in the accompanying drawing, an alternative form of the layer 2 is shown at 2'. In the layer 2', the window 5' is of rectangular form but accommodates the letters S-A-L-E, at 6, in the same printing ink as the layer 2'. The letters S-A-L-E thus appear in the same colour as the layer 2' and are surrounded by a background formed by the layer 3 and in the contrasting colour thereof.
A second window, in the form of a circular annulus, is provided at 7. In this example, the window 7 would appear in the colour of the layer 3 to provide an outline design for the handwritten price 4.
1. A display notice having a front transparent member carrying upon its rear surface a windowed opaque first layer, said first layer being covered on its rear surface by a backing layer such that the backing layer is visible from the front of the notice through said window of said first layer.
2. A display notice as claimed in Claim 1, in which the front transparent member is of plastics sheet and said first layer is printed onto the rear surface thereof.
3. A display notice as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the said backing layer covers all the back surface of the said first layer.
4. A display notice as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which at least one of said first and backing layers is printed with "Dayglo" (R.T.M.) ink.
5. A display notice as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the said first layer includes characters and/or designs in either direct (positive) or reverse (negative) printing.
6. A display notice as claimed in Claim 1, constructed substantially according to the example as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing or according to
