Abstract
A door bolt comprises a runner in two parts (K, O), which are fixed to a door and frame respectively, and a handle (B) attached to a rail (H) which are slidable on the runner and act as a bolt. A ramped depression (L) in the runner cooperates with a spring loaded ball F in the handle and serves to limit the movement of the handle. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Decor bolt
This invention appertains to door locking devices, namely a bolt.
For bathroom, toilet, bedroom or any other domestic, office or factory doors.
Simple in operation and design. Firm in operation and strong locking.
Constructed of metal cast, stamped or machined for basic parts. Could be other material if strength is not required.
The decor bolt is easy to clean and pleasing to look at.
Colour and finish is varied.
An attractive addition to any door with the added dependability of solid locking and safe operation.
1. Housing or rail moves over bolt or runner which in this case is the fixed part.
2. The larger gripping surface gives great flexibility in design of handle.
3. The handle covers all parts of decor bolt, giving an advantage in anti-vandal damage or removal.
4. Simple in its working parts and easy to manufacture.
5. The handle can be constructed to give an expensive, luxurious look or simple factoryfunction- al-only operation.
6. The range then is varied. The basic parts being identical, the handle depending on customer requirements.
7. Rail length equals total length of runner and runner register plate plus one eighth of an inch for door gap.
8. With door bolted, nothing shows exceptthe handle.
9. The register plate can be coloured or identified indicating open or closed.
10. Rail and rail register plate packaged with plastic container rail for easy fit and location to door.
11. Plastic keeper fitted to runner containing ball spring in handle for easy fit.
12. Edges of operating parts are rounded, preventing clothing damage and safe operation.
13. Decor bolt can be scaled up or down depending on requirement.
14. Handle material could be any that would take wear and tear, metal, plastic, glass, pottery, porcelane, wood, nylons, resins, ceramics, stone or composite depending on requirement.
15. The handle can be shaped to any artistic design, including birds, animals, flowers, trees, plants, fish, insects, fruits, pictures, seascapes, landscapes, mythological figures and beasts, figurines, buildings, boats, ships, trains, aircraft vehicles, weapons, sporting equipment, tools of every kind, numerically, alphabetically named, sectional or geometrically shaped.
16. Runner and rail can be any suitable shape giving the same basic operation, round, rounded, square, angled, multi angled, multi rounded, multi squared or fluted, multi squared, grooved, any shape where a bolt action will secure a door.
A. Artistic design.
B. Handle suitably shaped for easy grip.
C. Fluted either side to assist grip.
D. Holes counter sunk on channel side to attach rail to handle.
E. Compression spring inset into handle.
F. Steel ball giving stop device and smooth operation.
G. Hole in rail to allow compression spring operation.
H. Rail angled and shaped to allow bolt action.
I. Angle section giving firm, smooth ride over runner.
J. Counter sunk holes giving rail freedom.
K. Runner angled and shaped to accept rail.
L. Inset stops, depressions with ramps facing each otherto allow freedom of operation within the stops, can be deepened as an anti vandal device.
M. Angled sidewall where smaller area of runner is screwed to the door.
N. Shaped edges to allow easy rail pick up.
O. Bolt register runner.
P. Register runner stop to prevent overshoot.
O. Hole in handle for compression spring location.
R. Decor bolt shown on door.
S. Domestic door.
T. Rounded edges at corners.
U. Anti rotation teeth.
V. Groove between stops ensuring easy operation.
W. End plane.
1. The action of a conventional door bolt is reversed, where the bolt (internal) is fixed and the housing (external) moves.
2. The housing (handles) can then be manufactured to any practical or artistic shape, using any material, decor and finish being varied.

Superseded claims 1-2.
New or amended claims:- 1-5 incl.
1. I claim a bolt mechanism which is the reversal of a conventional bolt, where the larger structure moves across the smaller structures. The smaller structures being fixed to the door and door frame.
2. I claim a base which moves along a runnerto which a decorative handle is affixed.
3. I claim a ball and spring stop device which is inserted into a designed aperture of the handle which forms the larger structure.
4. I claim a runner with a channel deeper either end which forms maximum movement stops for the spring and ball in the handle. This being the smaller structure, the other being the register plate.
5. I claim a design as described in the specification which is new, compact, functional and easily manufactured.
