Abstract

213,650. Strachan, J. M. Dec. 29, 1922. Operating vehicle doors by driver by lever and link mechanism.- A hinged and foldable door for use on an omnibus or for other passenger vehicles is in two or more sections a, b hinged together at c and operable by levers g, h and a link o attached to a short arm l on the shaft f and to an arm m on a shaft n, with an operating lever q, situated near the driver's seat, the lever q having an eccentrically placed pin u to which is secured a spring v connected to the bracket p to maintain the hand-lever in the extreme positions. By this arrangement, movement of the lever m in one direction straightens out the links g, h to open the leaves and close the door, the pin i connecting the links being moved slightly past the dead centre position. The outer leaf b of the door is provided with a toothed segment w mounted concentrically with the pin c, and this segment is engaged by a rack x connected by a link z to a bracket l and adapted to slide on the leaf a when the door is moved into the open position. This sliding movement of the rack rotates the leaf b as the door is being opened, until the parts are folded. A foldable door with three segments is also described.
