Abstract

A preformed roof panel for an automobile roof, incorporating a board carrying certain internal services and their controls, together with further controls for operating accessory devices installed in said automobile. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Preformed roof panel for an automobile roof This invention relates to a preformed roof panel for an automobile roof, which incorporates a central board carrying certain internal services and their controls, together with further controls for operating accessory devices installed in said automobile.
In a preferred embodiment, said board is shaped as a polyhedral surface which extends over the entire length of the roof panel and carries the internal rearview mirror, the lights for illuminating the automobile passenger compartment, their operating pushbuttons and the pushbuttons for operating the electrical front and rear window regulators.
With this embodiment, it is possible to provide a rational, functional and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of a certain number of services and a plurality of controls, because although these are grouped on a single element they can be divided into two stations, one for the front passengers and the other for the rear passengers of the automobile, so as to be properly identifiable and easily accessible and operable by all the automobile occupants.
Moreover, the roof panel constructed in this manner simplifies assembly, because the central board forms a sub-unit which can be separately fitted-out and then incorporated into the roof panel when it is to be added to the automobile.
The characteristics and advantages of the invention will be more apparent from an examination of the embodiment shown on the accompanying figure by way of non-limiting example.
In the figure, the roof panel is indicated overall by 10, and is formed from a wall 11 of semi-rigid material, prepared by hot-pressing layers of felt and adhesive, together with an external velvet covering. The wall 11 comprises in its central part, and extending over its entire length, a longitudinal channel 1 2 having its edges 1 3 shaped as a broken line.
A central elongated board 14 shaped in the form of a polyhedral surface and constructed of rigid plastics such as ABS is housed in the channel 1 2 and fixed therein by clips (not shown).
On the front part of the board 14 there are mounted the internal rearview mirror 15, two sets of pushbuttons 16-19 and 20-23, a roof light 24 for lighting the automobile passenger compartment, and a positionable spotlight indicated by 25.
The pushbuttons 1 6 and 1 9 are of the twoposition type, and enable the window regulators for respectively the left hand and right hand front windows of the automobile to be operated in one direction and in the opposite direction. The pushbuttons 20 and 23, which are also of the preceding type, enable the electrical window regulators for the left hand and right hand rear windows of the automobile to be operated respectively.
The pushbuttons 1 7 and 1 8 serve for operating the switches which supply current to the two lamps, of different luminous intensities, of the rear roof light 24. The pushbutton 21 is connected to a safety switch for blocking the electrical rear window regulators. The pushbutton 22 serves for operating the switch which supplies current to the positionable spotlight 25.
On the rear part of the board 14 are mounted two positionable spotlight 26 and 27 and a further set of pushbuttons 28-31.
The pushbuttons 28 and 31 are of the twoposition type, and serve for operating the electrical window regulators for respectively the left hand and right hand rear windows of the automobile in one direction and in the opposite direction.
The two pushbuttons 29 and 30 serve for operating the switches which supply current to the positionable spotlights 26 and 27.
To the sides of the wall 11 of the roof panel there are fixed two padded fascias 32 and 33 constructed of polyurethane and lined with ABS, and on which are mounted the handles such as 34 and 35 acting as supports for the automobile occupants, and the sun visors 36 and 37.
The proposed roof panel thus offers a comfortable arrangement for certain automobile services and controls, and also represents a pleasant and elegant embodiment from the aesthetic viewpoint.
