Abstract

A package of confectionary products (B) comprises a tubular wrapper (1) heat-sealed along a longitudinal join (2) in the region of the wrapper (1) defining the base of the package. In order to securely locate the products (B) within the package, a drop of adhesive (4) is interposed between each product (B), or its immediate packing, and the base of the wrapper (1). The adhesive drops (4) are aligned along the median line of the base while the longitudinal heat-sealed join (2) lies to one side of this median line. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Confectionary product package The present invention relates to packages for confectionary products and particularly to a package comprising a tubular wrapper having a longitudinal heat-sealed join extending in the part of the wrapper itself defining the base plane of the package, and a pair of heat-sealed transverse sealing joins.

Packages of the type specified above, usually called 'flow-packs', are generally used in the confectionary product industry, for example, for packaging bars of chocolate, small cakes, snacks, toffee or chewing gum.

In the case of flat products (for example, bars of chocolate) movement of the product within the wrapper is practically impossible so that the correct positioning of the product within the package is ensured by the shape of the product itself. In certain cases this correct positioning is facilitated by a sheet of card interposed between the product and the part of the wrapper which defines the base plane of the package.

In the case of spherical products (for example, small balls of chewing gum), 'flow-pack' packages do not allow precise positioning of the productto be achieved; in many cases, however, this is wholly irrelevant for the purposes of the presentation of the product itself.

The object of the present invention is to provide a package of the type specified above which enables the easy and efficient packaging of confectionary products, particularly products of generally spherical form, which shouid be kept in a particular position within the package for more efficient and acceptable presentation to the public.

This object is achieved according to the invention by means of a package of the type specified above which is characterised in that an adhesive fixing element is located on the base plane between the wrapper and each product, and in that these fixing elements are aligned along the median line of the said base plane, of the package while the longitudinal join of the wrapper extends to one side of this median line.

As well as ensuring correct positioning of the product, the adhesive fixing of the products to the wrapper confers a certain longitudinal rigidity on the package facilitating its handling and use.

Further advantages of the invention will become clear from the description which follows, given purely by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the appended drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a package, for confectionary products, according to the invention, Figure2 is a sectional view taken on line ll-ll of Figure land Figure 3 is a section taken on line Ill-Ill of Figure 2.

In the drawings, three generally spherical confectionary products, for example spherical product covered with chocolate paste and nut granules, are indicated B, the products being wrapped in aluminium foil and located in cup-shaped containers with pleated side walls of the type generally in use for packaging small cakes.

The confectionary products B are enclosed in a package of the type generally known as a 'flowpack'.

The package is constituted by a tubular wrapper 1 of transparent sheet material having a heat-sealed longitudinal join 2 the lips of which are folded back into contact with the wrapper itself in the zone thereof which defines the base plane of the package.

The tubular wrapper 1 is also provided with a pair of heat-sealed transverse joins 3 which seal the package at its ends.

In correspondance with the base plane, an adhesive element 4 is provided between the wrapper and the base wall of each of the cup-shaped containers for the products B.

Each product B is thus fixed to the wrapper 1, ensuring and maintaining its correct positioning within the package.

The fixing elements 4, which are aligned along the middle of the part of the wrapper 1 defining the base plane of the package, are constituted by drops of an adhesive substance applied, during formation of the wrapper, to the base wall of the cup-shaped containers for the products B.

As is best seen in Figure 3, the longitudinal join 2 extends in a position to one side of the said median line of the base plane of the package. This arrangement avoids the adhesive substance constituting the elements 4 from penetrating the join 2 which would reduce the adhesive action fixing the products B to the wrapper 1.

Naturally, the effects of the present invention also extend to embodiments which achieve equal utility by using the same innovative concept.

1. A package containing confectionary-products, said package comprising a tubular wrapper which is closed at its end by transverse heat-sealed joins and has a longitudinal heat-sealed join extending in the part of the wrapper defining the base plane of the package, the package further comprising adhesive elements interposed between the base plane of the wrapper and the products contained in the package whereby to hold the products in position within the wrapper, these adhesive elements being aligned along the median line of the said base plane while the longitudinal join of the wrapper extends to one side of this median line.

2. A package according to Claim 1, in which each product has an associated cup-shaped container, the adhesive fixing elements being in direct contact with the base walls of these containers.

3. A package according to Claim 2, wherein the adhesive fixing elements are constituted by drops of an adhesive substance applied to the base walls of the said containers during formation of the wrapper.
