Abstract

212,225. Goerz Photochemische Werke Ges. March 3, 1923, [Convention date]. Films; colouring and finishing.-Photographic and kinematographic films are dulled by applying a fine spray of varnish so as to produce a stippled effect. Positive or negative film or the crude stock may be treated on one or both sides. The varnish or lacquer may consist of a cellulose solution to which a soluble metal salt, such as calcium may be added. In one form, a one per cent solution of nitro-cellulose in half-and-half ether-alcohol is sprayed on the film through a fine nozzle. The film may be coloured simultaneously by adding a suitable pigment to the varnish. The process is applicable for the removal of scratching on kinematograph films, and for covering up any coarseness of grain of negatives due to the quality of emulsion used.
