Abstract
A subsea oil production system comprises a plurality of subsea wells 2, 3 and a separate subsea riser base 1.The wells 2, 3 and the riser base 1 are connected through a manifold in such a manner that oil produced from any or all of the wells is passed to the riser base. The rise base terminates in a re-entry hub 4 adapted for connection with a riser connector package. The riser leads to a floating storage vessel. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Oil production system
This invention relates to an oil production system for use at an offshore location.
In recent years a number of offshore oilfields have been located which are too small to be economically developed using a fixed production platform supporting a multiplicity of producing wells. However these oilfields are believed to contain significant amounts of recoverable oil and there is therefore a need for a production system that is less expensive than the fixed platforms referred to above.
Our copending application GB 2 066 758 A discloses an oil production system suitable for use at an offshore location comprising a floating storage vessel to receive the produced oil and having means for dynamic positioning and a riser supported from the vessel and connectable at its lower end to a subsea well head, the vessel further having means for separating the oil and its associated gas and employing the latter as fuel to power the dynamic positioning means.
This system has now been improved and developed to be capable of passing the production of a plurality of wells through a common riser base.
Thus according to the present invention there is provided a subsea oil production system comprising a plurality of subsea wells and a separate subsea iiser base wherein the wells and the riser base are connected through a manifold in such a manner that oil produced from any or all of the wells is passed to the riser base, the riser base terminating in a re-entry hub (REH) adapted for engagement with a riser connector package (RCP).
Preferably the flow from each well is controlled by a choke operated by a wireline through the riser base, although some other arrangement for choke control of the wells may be employed if desired.
Preferably each well also terminates in a reentry hub adapted for connection with the riser connector package.
The re-entry hub preferably comprises a central bore for produced oil and a series of concentric grooves on the surface adapted to interface with the riser connector package. The riser connector package is similarly constructed and the resulting channels formed by the interfacing grooves form passageways for control fluids without requiring orientation of the riser connector package.
When the system is producing, a riser will be connected at its lower end to the riser connector package and the upper end of the riser will be supported from a floating storage vessel adapted to receive and store the oil.
The invention is iliustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings which are schematic diagrams.
With reference to Fig. 1, the system comprises
a riser base 1 and two production wells 2 and 3.
The riser base comprises a re-entry hub 4 and a manifold block 5. The top surface of the hub is adapted to interface with the riser connector package (not shown). The hub contains a central bore 6 for produced oil and a series of concentric grooves 7 which when matched with corresponding grooves in the riser connector passage provide channels for hydraulic control lines 8 for the wells.
The wells 2 and 3 comprise subsea tree assemblies 9 and 10 topped by similar re-entry hubs 11 and 12. The hubs are covered by high pressure caps 13 and 14.
The production wellheads are mounted within a pre-installed drilling template (not shown). The manifold block is mounted independently.
Production from wells 2 and 3 is taken by lines 15 and 16 to the manifold block 5 where the flows are controlled by wire line serviced retrievable chokes 1 7 and 1 8 before uniting to flow through the bore 6, controlled by valve 1 9.
Well 2 can be isolated by isolation valves 20 and 21 if and when desired and well 3 by corresponding valves (not shown).
If desired, the cap 13 or 14 may be removed from an isolated well and the riser connector package may be brought into engagement with the re-entry hub 11 or 12.
Fig. 2 represents the riser base 1 with the two satellite wells 2 and 3 supplying oil to it by lines 1 5 and 1 6 so that the total production is passed up the riser 6 to the surface vessel 22.
