Abstract

A hair cutting device of the type comprising two opposed rows of teeth (4) of which longitudinal motion causes, by shearing, the cutting of hair inserted between the teeth, characterized in that a conventional comb shape 1 is adopted, an end portion 2 of which is recessed along a longitudinal half of the comb, this recess being occupied by a supplementary half (3) making up a movable blade with cutting sharpened edged teeth (4) which have the same separation as the teeth of the basic comb (1), the device having centrally thereof a boss (10) mounted on an integral shaft (12) of said comb, this boss (10) having an extension (9) that makes an operating arm and a short upper extension (13) (Fig. 2) engaged with the movable blade (3) to longitudinally move it with the operation of said arm (9) and said arm (9) being associated with a spring (14), whereby its return to the original position is effected after each cutting operation. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improved hair cutting device The present invention relates to an improved hair cutting device.
More specifically the present invention provides a device allowing hair cutting while combing is being performed.
In the hair cutting art, when hair combing and cutting is being done, the hair ends should be cut evenly. In doing this, the hairdresser usually, on reaching the end of a combed tuft with the comb retains the comb at this end while hair is grasped with the fingers and resorts to another tool, usually scissors, to perform the cutting of this tuft end. This is a troublesome and time-consuming operation and the risk is there that with the operation to be made the grasped curl is moved and then an inadequate cutting is performed or else the operation has to be repeated.
The device of the present invention is precisely provided for solving the above mentioned disadvantages as while the combing is being performed it allows the ends to be cut with a simple operation. In this way a single hand is only required for this performance, less time is spent and the possibility of mistakes in the cutting because of curl moving is avoided, since said cutting is being performed without any uncomfortable motion and practically concurrently with comb retention after the combing of the hair tuft.
The device of the present invention is essentially provided with a commonly shaped comb where one portion of its teeth, preferably an end half has been cut according to a longitudinal plane, this cutting defining an enclosure for a supplementary half with sharpened edged teeth, making up the cutting blade, this blade being longitudinally movable in said enclosure by operation of an associated arm to this blade. The comb teeth in an inactive position are in registry with the teeth of the movable blade and by operating the arm the teeth move into and out of registry for hair cutting.
The cutting tooth blade is preferably easily removable so that replacement by a new or sharpened one is smoothly facilitated.
The other half of comb opposed to the cutting one works as a handle and can have simulated teeth.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a side elevation view of a preferred cutting device embodying the invention wherein an operating mechanism of a movable blade is exposedly shown; Figure 2 shows the cutting movable blade linked to an operating arm or lever; Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of the cutting position of the device; and Figure 4 is an upper plan view of the device.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a hair cutting device comprising made up with a comb member 1 with a hollowing out 2 extending approximately half the comb member length, the hollowing out being occupied by a movable blade 3 provided with sharpened comb teeth 4, longitudinally movable in the hollowing out 2. This moving blade 3 is guided by having a longitudinal rib 5 slidably received in a groove 6 of the basic comb member 1 and said movable blade is retained in position by means of lugs 7 integral with the basic comb member 1 engaging in grooves 8 of the movable blade.
The longitudinal movement of the movable blade 3 is obtained through a one-piece component with a relatively long operating arm 9, a boss 10 provided with a hole 11 for the mounting of the component rotational on a shaft 12, and a relatively short extension 13, the end of which is engaged in a removable manner with the blade 3. Shaft 12 is integral with member 1.
With the operation (i.e. upward movement in Fig. 1 ) of the arm 9, movement of the blade 3 is effected in one direction (leftwards in Fig. 1) and the return to the original position is obtained by a return spring 14.
The operating arm 9 has a finger hole 15 for the insertion of a finger, thus making easy the operation of the device; and the comb body has, centrally, some anatomical reliefs 1 6 adapted for facilitating grasping the device.

A hair cutting device comprising two opposed rows of teeth of which longitudinal relative motion causes by shearing the cutting of hair inserted between the teeth, characterized in that a conventional comb shape is adopted, an end portion of which exhibits a hollowing out along a longitudinal half of the comb, this hollowing out being occupied by a supplementary half making up a movable blade with cutting sharpened edged teeth which have the same separation as the teeth of the basic comb, the device having centrally thereof a boss mounted on an integral shft of said comb, this boss having a bottom extension that makes an operating arm and a short upper extension engaged with the movable blade to longitudinally move it with the operation of said arm, said arm being associated with a spring, whereby its return to the original position is effected after each cutting operation.
2. A device according to claim 1, characterized in that an upper portion of the hollowing out is provided with guide means for the movable blade.
3. A device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that fixation of the cutting movable blade in the hollowing out of the comb is effected that interchangeability of said cutting blade is possible.
4. A device according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the operating arm is formed at its free end with a finger ring for the insertion of a finger so that operability of the device is facilitated.
