Abstract

212,123. Melhuish, A. E., (American Blower Co.). March 14, 1923. Fans with annular discharge; casings.-In a centrifugal fan of the type having an open annular peripheral discharge nozzle as described in Specification 207,741 the nozzle is arranged to discharge at an angle substantially less than 90‹ to the axis of the rotor, or parallel to the axis. To a disc 3, Fig. 1, which is fixed to the hub 4, are attached blades 5 to the outer edges of which is secured a coned disc 1 having a flared intake 2. The discs 1, 3 converge beyond the blades as shown to form the nozzle portions 6<a>, 7<a>, beyond which a.re parallel curved portions 6b, 7<b> terminating in outwardly-flared lips 6<c>, 7<c> which give a backward axial discharge. In a modification, the nozzle is formed separately from the wheel and has a forward axial discharge. In a further modification, the fan-wheel comprises a front coned disc a, Fig. 4, blades c and a back-disc b having a coned portion b'. The discs a, b converge beyond the blades and terminate in a flared outlet a', b'.
