Abstract

Compositions containing formaldehyde are made by adding a sodium soap, such as sodium stearate, together with sodium carbonate or hydroxide to a hot aqueous solution of formaldehyde. According to the proporportions given in the examples, the soap and alkali form only a small percentage of the composition. The products are stable, that is to say, the formaldehyde does not polymerise; and in certain cases the compositions are solid.
