Abstract
A web product in roll form is contained within blister-type packaging comprising a preformed plastics shell 1 shaped to hold the product and backing sheet 4 secured to the periphery of the plastics shell holding the product in place. Lines of weakness along the shell and the backing sheet permit the removal of a marginal strip of the shell 7 and backing sheet 8 together. After removal, the shell edge so produced provides a separator facilitating removal of a length of the web material pulled through the mouth of the dispenser. The separator may comprise a serrated edge 10 to enable sheet material to be torn or, where the roll comprises a series of bags for example, a tongue is formed on the shell to locate in slits inbetween the bags to facilitate separation. The dispenser is suitable for dispensing plastic films, aluminium foils, bags, paper roll or other web product in roll form. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements relating to disposable dispensers
This invention relates to the field of packaging and is particularly suitable for high volume consumer products. It is a disposable dispenser for dispensing a web product in roll form contained within the dispenser.
The object of the invention is to provide a dispenser which is easy to handle in use.
According to the invention a dispenser comprises a preformed plastics shell, for example a plastics blister, shaped to locate a roll of web material such that the roll can rotate in the blister, the plastics shell being open on one side for insertion of the roll, a backing sheet secured to the periphery of the opening to close the opening, lines of weakness along the shell and the backing sheet to permit easy removal of a marginal strip of the shell and backing sheet, to provide a mouth through which the web material can be fed, the line of weakness on the sheel being such that after removal of said marginal strip the shell edge so provided forms a separator facilitating separation of a length of the web material pulled through the mouth from the roll.
Said separator may comprise a serrated edge to enable the sheet material to be torn. Alternatively, in the case where the roll comprises a series of bags, for example, having a join line between adjacent bags, the join line being slit intermediate its ends, said separator may comprise a tongue which locates in the slit to effect separation of the bags.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first construction of dispenser,
Figure 2 shows a similar perspective view of the dispenser after a marginal strip has been removed to render the dispenser operative for dispensing a web material.
Figure 3 shows an end view of the dispenser prior to removal of the marginal strip.
Figure 4 shows a similar end view after removal of the marginal strip.
Figure shows a front view of the second construction of dispenser, and
Figure 6 shows a similar front view after a marginal strip thereof has been removed.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4 of the drawings, the dispenser comprises a preformed plastics shell 1 with integrally formed ends 2 and 3. The shell may have the cross-sectional shape shown in Figure 3, and is open along one side to permit insertion of a roll of web material. After the roll has been inserted the opening is closed by a backing sheet 4. The roll of material lies freely in the shell so that it can rotate as the web is drawn from it.
Longitudinally extending lines of weakness 5 and 6 are provided along the shell 1 and backing sheet 4 adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof so that marginal strips 7 and 8 of the shell and backing sheet 4 can be removed to provide the mouth 9 through which the web material can be drawn.
The line of weakness 5 has a saw-tooth shape so that when the marginal strip 7 is removed a serrated separating edge 10 is provided over which the web material is drawn to tear off a length.
If desired a section of the backing sheet can be hinged or removed to enable the leading edge of the web roll to be fed through the mouth 9.
Referring now to Figures 5 and 6, these show a second construction of dispenser basically the same as that shown in Figures 1 to 3, and as far as possible the same reference numerals have been used for corresponding parts.
The dispenser shown in Figures 5 and 6 is designed, for example, for dispensing of a roll of bags joined to each other along a join line slit intermediate its ends.
In the second construction the shell is formed with two compartments 12 and 13. The compartment 12 contains the web roll and the compartment 13 holds, for example, bag ties. The two compartments are separated from each other by a constriction neck 14 in the shell.
In contrast with Figures 1 to 4, the separating edge 10 comprises a triangular tongue which engages in the slit in the join line to effect separation of the leading bag drawn through the mouth 9.
The dispenser of the invention is capable of industrial applications. It would be suitable for packing articles such as, plastic films, aluminium foils, polythene bags, paper roll or any continuous material.
To produce this packaging is cheap. Once the product material packed is used up it is expected that the packaging will be disposed of and a new pack acquired.
1. This claim relates to the improvement of disposable dispensers comprising an innovative way of using blister-type packaging to housing web products in roll form combining to act as a separator for the web product. This is effected by providing lines of weakness along the shell edge and its backing board to permit easy removal of a marginal strip of the shell and backing sheet. A mouth is so provided through which the web material can be fed and drawn over the shell edge which acts as a separator for the removal of a desired length of web material. The separator may comprise a serrated edge to enable sheet material to be torn or may comprise a tongue which locates in slits in the material to effect separation, or example, in the case where the roll comprises a series of bags.
