Abstract

A carton blank comprises a base part 10, two side wall flaps 11, 12 on opposite sides of the base part and two outer end wall flaps 26, 27 at the other opposite sides of the base part, each end wall flap having an inner side wall flap 30, 31, 32, 33 on each side thereof and each inner side wall flap having a partition flap 40, 41, 42, 43 on its side remote from the end wall flap. The flaps 40, 41 and 42, 43 overlap to define partitions in the erected carton and may be slotted to receive cross-partition members. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Carton This invention relates to cartons provided with partitions and especially although not solely to cartons suitable for transport of bottles.
It is well known to make cartons provided with seperate loosely inserted partitions and the object of the present invention is to provide a carton in which some at least of the partitions are an integral part of a carton blank whereby the blanks can be stacked flat and can be readily erected by hand or machine and glued or otherwise fixed in erected condition.
According to the present invention we provide a carton blank having a base part, two side wall flaps on opposite sides of the base part, two outer end wall flaps at the other opposite sides of the base part, each end wall flap having an inner side wall flap on each side thereof, each inner side wall having a partition flap on its side remote from the end wall flap, the inner side wall flaps and the partition flaps being cut apart from the side wall flaps, and the flaps being otherwise separated from each other by crease lines.
When the carton is erected, the two partition flaps divide the interior of the carton into three compartments.
The blank will normally be made of corrugated cardboard.
If desired the partition flaps may be slotted to receive slotted cross partitions which can be inserted by hand or can be "fired" in by machine.
The invention will now be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: FIGURE 1 is a view of a blank made in accordance with the invention; FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of an erected box without a lid; and FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of an erected box with a lid.
The blank comprises a rectangular base part 10 the long opposite sides of which are connected with outer side wall flaps 1tor 12 separated therefrom by crease lines 13,14. The side wall flaps 11,12 may end at the lines 18,19 in which case the blank is rectangular and the box then requires a seperate top.
However, if an attached top is required top flaps 20,21 are attached to the flaps 11,12 with crease lines 18,19 between them. The top flaps may also carry tuck-in flaps 24.
End wall flaps 26,27 are attached to the short opposed slides of the base part 10 with crease lines 28,29 between them.
Attached to the sides of the end wall flaps26,27 are inner side wall flaps 30,31,32,33 with crease lines 35,3637,38 between them and attached to the flaps 30-33 are partition flaps 40,41,42,43 with crease lines 44,45,46,47 between them.
The flaps 30-33 and 40-43 are severed from the flaps 1 t,12 by cuts 50,51,52,53. These cuts are shown in solid lines to distinguish from the crease lines which are shown as broken lines.
In the machine erection of the carton, glue is applied at the four places shown at 60,61,62,63. The flaps 42,32,27,33,43 and 40,30,26,21,41 are folded into two rectangles and stood upright on the base part 10. The side walls 11,12 are then stood upright against the rectangles thus forming the carton with three compartments as shown in Figure 2. The flaps 20,21,24 if provided are then applied to close the box.
However if desired the partitions formed by the flaps 40,41 and 42,43 are slotted, preferably with widening of the tops of the slots, so that one, two or three loose cross-partitions can be "fired" in to provide 6,9 or 12 compartments or even more.
1. A carton blank having a base part, two side wall flaps on opposite sides of the base part, two outer end wall flaps at the other opposite sides of the base part, each end wall flap having an inner side wall flap on each side thereof, each inner side wall flap having a partition flap on its side remote from the end wall flap, the inner side wall flaps and the partition flaps being cut apart from the side wall flaps, and the flaps being otherwise separated from each other by crease lines.
2. A carton blank asclaimed in claim 1,wherein the partition flaps are slotted to receive slotted cross partitions.
3. A carton blank substantially as descirbed with reference to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings.
4. A corrugated cardboard carton made from the blank claimed in claim 1,2 or 3 with glue applied to strips on two partition walls at one end of the blank at right angles to two glued strips on the side walls.

CLAIMS
