Pistons. - A split oil-scraping ring is formed with a shallow recess 8, Fig. 2, or two recesses 8<a>, 9<a>, Fig. 4, forming a side or middle flange 10 or 10<a>, having parallel sides, and preferably of less than half the width of the ring. The depth of the recesses 8, 8<a>, 9<a> is only sufficient to clear the cylinder wall during the life of the ring.
