Abstract
210,429. Ogny, C. d'. Jan. 23, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Body motion and weight of rider, propelling by. -Vehicles are propelled by the walking motion of a man or an animal on an endless belt or travelling platform mounted on drums, which drive the wheels or travelling tracks of the vehicle. A bicycle, Fig. 1, is provided with two endless belts 1, one on each side of the frame to receive each foot of the rider, and one of the two rear drums 7, 8 is fitted with a ratchet free-wheel device and is connected by gearing 12, 13 or a chain &c. to the road wheel 14. The inclination of the belt 1 may be made adjustable by mounting the shaft 9 of the loosely-mounted front drums upon a rack actuated by a pinion on the cycle frame. The rider bears upon a handle-bar 4, and may sit on a saddle during free-wheeling. In a four-wheeled vehicle, a wide endless belt to accommodate an animal is supported along its upper part by a series of rollers. A collar or yoke is provided for the animal, and a seat for the driver is mounted at the side.
