Gaff-hooks.-A portable gaff-hook which can be extended for use by the single hand holding it is in three parts, a tubular handle section a, a middle section d telescoping in the part a and urged outwards by a spring c, and a hook section f pivoted to the end of section d. When collapsed, section d is housed within, and section f is folded alongside, the section a, being retained in this position by a spring catch which is released by a swinging movement to unfold section f and throw it into alignment with the handle. The catch locks section f in the aligned position and at the same time releases section d which is then pushed out of section a by the spring c. The catch, Fig. 5, comprises a member k pivoted to section d and provided with a projection p which, when the parts are collapsed as shown, engages a shallow recess or flat x in the hinge portion of section f. The tail-piece of member k bears upon a pivoted member s with a notch u held in engagement with a V-shaped projection w on section a. When section f is unfolded, projection p snaps into a recess j deeper than recess x, locking section f in its extended position, and at the same, time the tail-piece ceases to retain the parts u, w in engagement, so that the spring c operates to extend section d. The handle may have a ring for suspension on the fisherman's belt.
