Abstract

The invention relates to an electrical appliance such as a coffee maker or a steam iron, having a housing (1) on which a water reservoir (2) can be detachably mounted. The reservoir comprises an outlet section (9) with an automatically closing valve (10), which outlet section is engageable with an inlet section (11) of a water heater (3) in the housing in a water-tight manner. The electrical appliance is provided with an ejection device (13) with which the outlet section (9) can be pressed out of the inlet section (11), so that the reservoir is easy to remove with one hand. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Electrical appliance with detachable water reservoir The invention relates to an electrical appliance, such as a cofee-maker or a steam-iron, comprising a housing, a water heater in the housing, and a water reservoir which can be detachably mounted on the housing and which comprises an outlet section with an automatically closing valve, which outlet section is engageable with an inlet section of the water heater in a water-tight manner.
Such an appliance is known from German Auslegeschrift No. 1,944,578. In order to ensure a satisfactory water-tight connection between the outlet section and the inlet section a very effective sealing should be provided between said sections.
Therefore, the sections shouid tightly fit into or against each other via the seal. As a result of this, removal of the water reservoir demands some force.
It is an object of the invention to provide an electrical appliance whose detachable water reservoir can readily be removed from the appliance by a simple operation.
According to the invention there is provided an electrical appliance comprising a housing, a water heater in the housing, and a water reservoir which can be detachably mounted on the housing and which comprises an outlet section with an automatically closing valve, which outlet section is engageable with an inlet section of the water heater in a water-tight manner, wherein an ejection device is provided by means of which the outlet section of the water reservoir can be disengaged from the inlet section of the water heater.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrical appliance in accordance with the invention the ejection device comprises a lever which is pivotably arranged in the housing and one end of which is provided with a press-button which projects from the housing, the other end of the lever being arranged to apply a force to the water reservoir for disengaging said outlet section from said inlet section upon depression of the press-button.
The ejection device may comprise a thrust pin which is slidably arranged in the housing and which is interposed between said other end of the lever and the water reservoir.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a elevation of a coffee-maker embodying the invention and Figure 2 is a sectional view of the ejection device employed in the coffee-maker shown in Figure 1.
The coffee-maker of Figure 1 comprises a housing 1 on which a water reservoir 2 can be detachably mounted, a water heater 3 situated in the bottom of the housing, a riser pipe 4, a spout 5 having an outlet 6 which debouches over a filter device 7, and a removable coffee jug 8. The water reservoir 2 comprises an outlet section 9, in which is located a valve 10 which automatically closes when the reservoir is removed from the housing. The outlet section 9 fits into an inlet section 11 of the water heater 3. A sealing ring 12 is interposed between the two sections. The dimensions of the sections 9 and 11 and the ring are such that the outlet section 9 fits tightly in the inlet section 11. In order to facilitate separation of the two sections there is provided an ejection device 3.This ejection device comprises a lever 14 which is pivotally supported between two projections 15 and 16 on the housing. One end of the lever has a press-button 17 which projects from the housing 1. By means of the other end 18 the outlet section 9 of the reservoir 2 can be forced out of the inlet section 11. For this purpose an upward force can be applied to the bottom 19 of the reservoir 2 by the end 18 of the lever either directly or, as is shown in Figure 2, through a thrust pin 12 which is slidably mounted in the housing 1 and which is interposed between the end 18 of the lever and a projection 21 on the bottom 19 of the reservoir. In order to prevent the water reservoir from being tilted the projection 21 is disposed near the outlet section 9. The operation is simple. When the press-button 17 is depressed, the outlet section 9 is pressed out of the inlet section 11 by the thrust pin 21 and the reservoir can then readily be removed in order to be filled with water.
The ejection device may also be employed in other electrical appliances such as steam irons.
1. An electrical appliance comprising a housing, a water heater in the housing, and a water reservoir which can be detachably mounted on the housing and which comprises an outlet section with an automatically closing valve, which outlet section is engageable with an inlet section of the water heater in a water-tight manner, wherein an ejection device is provided by means of which the outlet section of the water reservoir can be disengaged from the inlet section of the water heater.
2. An electrical appliance as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the ejection device comprises a lever which is pivotally arranged in the housing and one end of which is provided with a press-button which projects from the housing, the other end of the lever being arranged to apply a force to the water reservoir for disengaging said outlet section from said inlet section upon depression of the press-button.
3. An electrical appliance as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the ejection device comprises a thrust pin which is slidably arranged in the housing and which is interposed between said other end of the lever and the water reservoir.
4. An electrical appliance substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
