Abstract

A television receiver designed for effecting a stereophonic sound reproduction in which, apart from the speakers (4) radiating in the forward direction for reproducing the high and mid-range frequencies, a bass-reflex speaker enclosure (6) is arranged inside the television receiver cabinet on both the right and the left of the screen. The base reflex speaker enclosures (6) consist of a closed plastics housing (11, 12-Fig. 3) which, with the aid of rails (25), are detachably mounted to the interior surfaces of the side panels (7) of the television receiver cabinet (2). Inside the bass reflex speaker enclosures (6), the diaphragms of the woofers radiate sideways, and the bass reflex ports (9) open out on the front panel of the television receiver. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Television receiver for stereophonic sound reproduction The invention relates to a television receiver including stereophonic sound reproduction equipment, i.e. to a stereo TV set.
According to the present invention, there is provided a television receiver including stereophonic sound reproduction equipment, wherein in the front panel of a television receiver cabinet, on the right and the left hand side of the television screen, either one medium-highfrequency speaker each, or one midrange speaker and one tweeter each, are arranged, and wherein inside the cabinet on each of two opposite cabinet side panels a respective closed speaker enclosure is arranged, wherein the diaphragm of a respective low-frequency speaker (woofer) chassis is arranged in each enclosure, which low-frequency speakers radiate towards the respective side panel and wherein each enclosure comprises a first opening which is in communication with a respective opening provided in the front panel.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is the front view of a television receiver according to the invention, Fig. 2 is a partly sectional view taken through the television receiver according to Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a side view of the speaker enclosure, Fig. 4 is a top view on to the inside of the cover of the speaker enclosure, Fig. 5 is a view into the interior of the speaker enclosure box, Fig. 6 is a side view of the box according to Fig.
5, Fig. 7 is a top view on to the tubing, Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section taken through the tubing according to Fig. 7, Fig. 9 is a top view on to the outerside of the cover, Fig. 10 is a top view on to the inside of the cover according to Fig. 9, Fig. 11 is a longitudinal section taken through the cover according to Figs. 9 and 10, and Fig. 12 is a side view of a mounting rail.
Fig. 1 shows the front panel 1 of a television receiver cabinet 2, i.e. the panel framing the screen 3 of the television picture tube. On the rear side of the front panel 1, on the right and the left of the screen 3, either one medium-highfrequency speaker 4 each or one combination each consisting of a mid-range speaker and a tweeter is mounted. Moreover, Fig. 1 shows openings 5. These openings 5 are that bass-reflex ports of bass reflex speaker enclosures 6 which, as is shown in Fig. 2, are mounted on the inside surface of both the right hand and the left hand side panel 7 of the cabinet 2. The speaker enclosure 6, with the exception of the sound aperture of the woofer chassis 8 and an opening 9 acting as a bass reflex port, is closed on all sides.
The speaker enclosures 6 are in such a way arranged on the side panels 7 that the sound apertures are in communication with corresponding openings provided in the side panels 7. The openings 9 of the speaker enclosure 6 are in communication with the openings 5 in the front panel 1 via tube 10.
Fig. 3 is the side view of the left hand speaker enclosure 6 as shown in Fig. 2, i.e. in a view as if the removed speaker enclosure 6 were looked upon in the direction as indicated by the arrow A (Fig. 2). The speaker enclosure 6 consists of the - box 11 and of the cover 12 which are both injection-moulded in one piece from a plastics material. In the finished speaker enclosure 6 both the cover and the box are screwed to one another and/or bonded and/or welded. On the frame surface 13 of the speaker enclosure 6 there is provided the opening 9. When the box 11 is used for the right hand speaker enclosure 6, then the opening is positioned at the point 9'. At these points the box 11 may be provided with correspondingly prepared surfaces which are capable of being broken away.
Fig. 4 shows the rear side, i.e., the side of the cover 12 facing the interior of the box 1 The cover is provided with an opening 1 4 in which the woofer 8 is inserted and secured to the cover. The rear side of the cover 12 as shown in Fig. 4, is provided with a network of reinforcing ribs 1 5. To a supporting point injection-mounded in one piece to the reinforcing ribs 15, there is screwed a soldering strip 16; between this strip and a soldering strip on the speaker basket of the loudspeaker 8 there is soldered a capacitor 1 7 forming part of the filter network. The coil 18 likewise belonging to this network is bonded into a square formed by the reinforcing ribs 1 5.
Fig. 5 is a view on to the open side of the box 11; it will be seen that also the interior surfaces of the box are provided with a network of reinforcing ribs 1 5 which increase the rigidity of the speaker enclosure and serve to avoid unwanted resonances. Moreover, it is recognizable from Fig.
5 that to the box 11 there is injection-moulded an almost completely circumferential rim portion 1 9 as well as a ridge member 20. The rim portion 19 is provided with holes 21; at these points, the rim portion 19, as is recognizable from Fig. 6, is somewhat thicker. The box 11 according to Fig. 5 is provided in its right-hand lower corner with the opening 9. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the holes 21 for securing the cover. In the course of this the ridge member 20 engages into a corresponding groove 22 provided in the cover (Fig. 10).
Fig. 6 which shows a side view of the box 11 according to Fig. 5, again illustrates the rim -portion 19, the ridge member 20 and the holes 21. Moreover, the opening 9 is recognizable therefrom. Into this opening 9 the tubing 1 0 (Figs.
7 and 8) which, in the present example of embodiment, has a rectangular cross section, is inserted in the direction as indicated by the arrow B, with the ridge members 23 which are injection-moulded in one piece to the tubing, serving the guidance and the mounting purposes.
Fig. 9 shows the outside of the cover 12 in which the opening 14 is recognizable. The woofer which is not shown in Fig. 9, is placed in the given example of embodiment from the outside on to the cover 12 and is secured in position by means of self-tapping screws screwed into the holes 24.
Moreover, guide rails 25 are injection-moulded in one piece to the cover 12. At the end of the guide rails 25 there are arranged the cams 26 projecting out of the cover plane.
Fig. 10 again shows the rear side of the cover 12. From this drawing, the groove 22 is particularly well recognizable, as well as supporting points 27 injection-moulded to the reinforcing ribs 15, and ridge members 28 for guiding the connecting cables.
Fig. 11 again shows details of the cover 1 2 which have already been mentioned hereinbefore in connection with the description of Figs. 9 and 10.
Fig. 12 shows one of the mounting rails 29 which are secured to the side panel 7 of the television receiver cabinet 2 and into which there is then inserted the speaker enclosure 6 with the guide rails 25 of the cover 12. The mounting rail 29 is provided at its end with the resilient nose member 30 which, when the speaker enclosure 6 is completely inserted, engages behind the cam 26.
Thus, the invention provides a television receiver including stereophonic sound reproduction equipment, in which the quality of the sound reproduciton is essentially improved without requiring for this purpose any noteworthy change in the outer appearance or in the shape and size of the television receiver cabinet.
