Abstract

210,126. Hirst, J. A., and Brook, Hirst, & Co., Ltd. Oct. 17, 1922. Ratchet gearing for operating handles applicable to electric switch gear of the type described in Specifications 155,614 and 166,256, [both in Class 38 (iii), Electric motor control systems &c.]. When the switch gear has been moved to the full '' on '' position the ratchet mechanism is rendered inoperative by means of a mask until the handle has been released. As shown, the movable part A of the casing is actuated by the handle a<3> journaled on a spindle a<5> which carries a cam F. The operating-mechanism for the switch comprises a pawl a<6> engaging a ratchet C mounted on the ends of a shaft c<1>. The mask E is mounted on an auxiliary shaft e' slidable in the shaft c<1>, and carries a lug e<3> which is engaged by a stud c<6> on the ratchet c, and is thereby rotated into a position wherein the pawl is inoperative to impart further movement to the ratchet. On release, the handle a<3> moves to the position shown in Fig. 4 and the cam F permits a spring to move the shaft e<1> to the right, thereby unmasking the pawl.
