Abstract

A weighing apparatus includes a weigh table 26 supported on a weigh cell 51. The table is arranged to be easily removed for washing or cleaning and comprises a belt-type conveyor driven via a shaft 42 which is detachably coupled to drive means 44, 46, 47. In use the table is secured by wing nuts 57. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Weighing apparatus This invention relates generally to weighing apparatus and more particularly to weighing apparatus including a removable powered weigh table.
In food processing and many other packaging processes the package weight is measured as it travels over a weighing apparatus. One type of weighing apparatus includes a powered weigh table to receive a package from an input conveyer to weigh it and deliverthe packageto an output conveyor. The powered weigh table includes conveyor means which move the package from the input to the output conveyor. The powered weigh table is supported by a weigh cell associated with the weighing apparatus.
Means for powering the weigh table are also supported on the weigh cell.
There is a need particularly when the weighing apparatus is operated in a hostile environment to wash the input and output conveyors and the powered weigh table. In the prior art the cleaning operation requires care to prevent wetting the weigh cell and power means.
We have now developed an improved weighing apparatus in which the weigh table is removable from the weighing apparatus without tools, and in which a powered weigh table is removably mounted on a weigh cell and detachably secured to power means also mounted on the weigh cell.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a weighing apparatus of the type which includes a powered weigh table supported on a weigh cell which weighing apparatus includes means for removably supporting the powered weigh table on the weigh cell.
In a preferred aspect, the present invention provides a weighing apparatus which comprises a weigh cell, a powered operated weigh table removably supported on the cell, a power means supported on the cell and means for detachably engaging the weigh table with the power means when the weigh table is removed from the weigh cell.
The invention and its features will be more clearly understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a weighing apparatus in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the weighing apparatus shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view showing the weigh cell, power means and detachably secured power operated weigh table.
Figure 4 is a view showing the weigh cell, power means and detached power operated weigh table.
Referring particularly to Figure 1 and 2 the weighing apparatus includes a power operated in-feed belt conveyor 11 and a power operated out-feed belt conveyor 12. The belt 11 is shown reeled over idler rollers 13 and 14. The belt is driven by a power operated drive roller 16 and tensioned by a tensioning roller 17. Likewise the belt 12 is reeled over idler rollers 18 and 19. The belt is power operated by roller 21 and tensioned by tensioning roller 22. The drive meansforthe belts are included in a housing 23 partially shown in Figure 2.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a powered weigh table 26 which in the present instance includes a plurality of spaced O-ring belts 27 which are carried by spaced driven rollers 28 and 29 and tensioned by roller 31. It is apparent that the conveyor belts can comprise flat conveyor belts rather than O-ring belts. The rollers 28,29 and 31 are mounted between side plates 32 and 33 held by spacers 34 and 36. The rollers 28 and 29 are driven by a drive belt 37 which is engaged by idler rollers 38 and 39 and is driven by drive pulley 41. Preferably the belt is a flat drive belt.
The drive pulley 41 is driven by a shaft 42 which is detachably coupled to a shaft43 (Figure 4) driven by the pulley 44. The pulley 44 is driven by belt 46 which engages pulley 47 driven by a motor 48 (Figures 3 and 4). The powered weigh table and drive motor are supported by weigh cell 51 mounted on base 52. The weigh cell is connected to suitable electrical circuitry which calculates and displays the weight at display means 53.
In accordance with the present invention the powered weigh table is removably supported on the weigh cell and detachably secured to the drive means including pancake motor 48. Referring specifically to Figures 3 and 4the side plate 33 includes a pair of studs 56 which threadedly receive wing nuts 57. When the table is lowered onto the associated weigh cell the spaced studs are engaged in cooperating grooves 58 on mount 59 to support the table. The wing nuts are hand tightened to secure the powered weigh table to the supporting structure associated with the weigh cell. At the same time the slotted lower end of the shaft 42 couples to the upwardly extending drive shaft 43 which includes a pin 61. The pin rides into the slotted end portion of the shaft 41 to thereby provide a drive coupling between the shaft 42 and the associated shaft 43.Thus, in the mounted position the belt 37 is driven via the motor 48 through the belt drives just described. To uncouple the assembly the wing nuts are loosened and the powered weigh table lifted. The weigh table can be dipped in a washing solution, spray washed or the like without any of the water or other cleaning solution impinging upon the weigh cell 51 or drive motor 48.
Thus, there has been provided an improved weighing apparatus on which the powered weigh table may be removed from the weigh cell assembly and simultaneously detached from the drive means without tools for cleaning and easily and quickly remounting after being cleaned.
