Abstract

A clothes rack comprises a wall mountable bracket having pivoted thereto a lower clothes bearing arm and an upper stay, the stay and clothes bearing arm being adjustably interconnected at their outer ends. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Trouser and tie rack The basic idea is the open and closed positions as shown in drawing No. 1. The front view is shown in drawing No. 2. A folding bracket underneath the rack would be just an effective when the rack is used just for trousers and ties, but the overhead bracket as shown in the drawing was designed in order to permit the use of conventional coat hangers, carrying suits and jackets etc. to be hung directly underneath the rack.
In the closed position the minimum amount of space (5") consistant with the jackets and trousers being properly hung, is used as all the articles hang one below the other. In the open position, ease of hanging and removal of articles is assured because of extral space provided and the fact that the trousers bars and tie hooks are open-ended. In addition, every item on the rack is clearly visible from the front in both open and closed positions.
Further modifications could be made still using the basic idea, such as: 1)Without the trouser bars and tie bars.
Coat hangers could be hung directly underneath the rack to carry suits, jackets, shirts, cardignas, dresses, skirts, blouses etc.
2) A smaller version could be used for ties, carrying ties on both sides. In this case I think the holding bracket could be dispensed with as the hanging and removal of the tie is essentially a one hundred operation; the other hand would lift and drop the rack.
I consider this idea emmensely useful where space is at a premium, i.e. caravans, chalets, pleasure cruisers, ships cabins and in the home (small bedroom) etc.
The model shown in the photograph attached, is made from odd bits and pieces, mainly wood. A production model would be subject to further design and choice of material to facilitate production and improve appearance.
1. A combined trouser and tie rack including an arm (1) pivotted at or near one end (2) and a stay (3), which is pivotted, for movement in a vertical plane, to a bracket (4) at one end and coupled to the arm (5) at the other end whereby it supports the arm when moved from a closed to an open position as shown in drawing No. 1.
2. A combined trouser and tie rack as claimed in claim (1). The arm having bars on one side capable of carrying trousers and smaller bars or hooks on the other side for holding ties as shown in drawing No. 2.
3. The arm as described in drawing No. 1 and drawing No. 2 may be adapted for other use i.e.: (a) Trouser bars on both sides to carry twice as many trousers.
(b) Smaller version carrying tie hooks on both sides in which case the supporting stay (3) drawing No. 1., may be dispensed with as unnecessary.
(c) Without trouser bars or tie hooks but having a series of hooks underneath the arm to carry conventional coat hangers.
(d) Longer bars than shown in drawing No 2 on both sides of the arm for use as a drying rack for wet clothes.
