Description

SPECIFICATION Articles of jewellery The present invention relates to articles of jewellery particulariy for feminine adornment.
It is of course known to provide an article of jewellery in the form of a locket having two hinged parts which can be opened to reveal a photograph orthe like normally contained out of sight within the locket.
It is also known to provide a ring with a normally closed cavity which can be opened to provide access to an object concealed therein.
The present invention provides an article of jewellery including a member provided with a cavity adapted to contain one or more pills or capsules which are externally visible through a transparent part of the article of jewellery.
In a preferred construction the member provided with the cavity is itself transparent, at least in part, such that one or more pills or capsules contained within the cavity are externally visible through the member.
By reason of their colour and/or shape the pill or pills may contribute to the aesthetic effect or overall appearance of the article ofjewellery.
The member provided with the cavity is advan tageouslyformed in the fashion of a jewel, for example of a glass or a synthetic transparent material, although of course it could be fashioned from a precious or semi-precious stone.
The article of jewellery incorporating the member may be of any desired form, for example it may be a pendant, a necklace, a bracelet, a brooch or a ring.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. lisa side view of an article of jewel lery according to one embodiment of the invention, in the form of a pendant; and Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view of another embodiment according to the invention.
The article of jewellery shown in Fig. 1 is in the form of a hanging ornament or pendant and comprises a transparent, preferably colourless or pale coloured, synthetic stone 1 of generally tear-drop form having a ring 2 at one end by means of which it may be hung from a chain about the neck.
The member 1 is provided with a longitudinal cavity 3 which is closed by a plug 4 which is a friction or screw fit in the open end of the cavity 3. The plug 4 is also transparent and may be made of the same material as the member 1 or of a different material. It is formed so that it may be readily removed and replaced to allow the insertion of a pill or capsule 5 into the cavity 3. The pill or capsule is preferably coloured and since it is visible through the transparent member 1, its colour and shape contribute to the overall appearance and effect of the article of jewellery.
It will be apparent that more than one pill or capsule may be contained in the cavity 3 or, indeed, that more than one such cavity may be provided.
Fig. 2 shows a further embodiment of the invention comprising two members 10 and 11 both made of a synthetic material. The member 10 is fashioned as a transparent synthectic stone having a curved upper face 12 and a cavity 13 formed in its flat underside. The member 11 may also be made of a transparent material and is in the form of a shallow tray 14 within the confines of which the lower part of the member 10 is a snap fit. Thus the two parts may be snapped together or separated. The ends of the member 11 are provided with lugs or eyes 15 whereby it may be readily attached to a strap or bracelet or may be linked to similar members so as to form a bracelet. The cavity 13 in the member 10 is intended to receive one or more coloured pills or capsules which are visible through the member 10 and/or the member 11. If desired a part of one of the members may be rendered opaque.
Whilst particular embodiments have been described, it will be understood that numerous mod ifications may be made. Thus, the article of jewellery may take any other desired form and where it consists of two or more parts these may be hinged or pivoted together or slide one relative to the other to open or close-off access to the cavity.
In one particular form of the invention the article of jewellery is specifically intended for containing one or more contraceptive pills in a visible fashion.
